Re: Timeshift|Menu|View TimeShift Logs fails

For both machines, when I do Timeshift|Menu|View TimeShift Logs the Audacious program appears Just to be clear. The Audacious program launches and it doesn't show any of the .log files since Audacious is an audio file player. That is certainly not normal. In 19.3 (64 bit) it opens Nemo and lists th...

Re: Data Transfer Problem In Mint 20.

That is good advice from Pierre. I use FreeFileSync for my tough copy (mirror) issues. Whatever those guys do behind the scenes seems to work the best of anything I try. Perhaps Double Commander is just as good, but FFS will probably work. And you can stop it in the middle. It will take a long time ...

Re: QGIS Updates - No Menu Item

This Houston, TX USA boy is 100%, bowled-over, and dumbfounded with amazement. It worked. The gory details are here: http://www.mflan.com/temp/shell.txt I was big-time worried about those public key errors, but it worked anyway. I didn't do it on my production machine, but I will. First I'll talk to...

Re: QGIS Updates - No Menu Item

Thanks so much. You've been a huge help. The 'sudo apt-get update' now has no 404 error in it. That was easy [for you]. Maybe I should try this first: Uninstall the Flatpak with APT and install the 3.16 version with APT. If that doesn't work, then do 'sudo apt-get purge QGIS' and then try to install...

Re: How to turn off HAND ICON on mouse hover for web links?

We aren't ignoring you, but just don't know how to help. If you search around you will find some of the code that does this, but I couldn't figure out where to put that to override the default. Mostly you will find how to change TO the hand icon. I notice that Firefox and Chromium both have the hand...

My t520 does not seem to be active. The t520 worked like a champ before, but does not work now. Hmmm. I wonder if this post, which I find very interesting, would not benefit from you giving a stripped down summary of what has been done and where we stand right now. I just read the whole post again ...

Why "lsb_release -c -s" which resolves to "tricia". "tricia" neither matches Ubuntu, let alone Debian. Remember now - I am almost certainly not as smart as you think I am. My understand is "Tricia" is just another name for Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon (64-bit), w...

Re: QGIS Updates - No Menu Item

Thanks karlchen. Interesting. Makes sense to me that I have two QGIS installed. I'm still studying this to answer these questions/issues: 1) I thought APT Software Manager created menu start items, and FlatPak did not. 2) This command produces no results: grep -i "QGIS" /usr/share/applicat...

Re: Login Delays

No, I don't know. That is unusual. Maybe more description will help. When you do

Code: Select all

sudo cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab.bak
How long does it take before and after you enter your password?
It takes no time at all for me.

Re: Internal Desktop Computer SATA Connections

Others will correct me if I am wrong. The color of the SATA cable is not significant. The color of the connection port on the motherboard does have some significance. Lets see - one is the anticipated boot drive (I think). Most of the others are all the same color (I think). Just going from memory. ...

I'm new to SSD's and would like to know if these temperatures are within an acceptable range.
Something goofy is going on there. My SSD (sda1) is showing 4 months powered on and temperature is 31° C / 88° F in Disks, so I say your reading are not normal.

is there an easy way to do this? Not that I know of. I have two Win10 machines and three LM machines. It really helps if at least one of the machines is Win10. I just go back and forth from the Win machine to LM and keep reducing barriers. Change passwords, turn off password protection, etc. It is ...

Re: Linux mint 19.3 every hard drive shows the permission of "xxxxxx" could not be determined

Free advice. Before you edit fstab do:

Code: Select all

sudo cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab.bak
in a terminal window. Then hit enter.
Hopefully you won't need to thank me later.
