Anyone know wher logwatch has gone?

Hi all, I am running Mint 13 Cinnamon and wanted to run logwatch to email a daily summary of my logs to my main machine. It is available on both my other Linux boxes that runs Centos but I cannot find it anywhere on the Mint box. I would have thought that it was pretty standard software so am surpri...

Re: How to open a dvd tray - No buttons or pinhole

Thank you spandey and HughT. You hit the nail on the head. Years ago I had put a link on my Centos desktop. I had completely forgotton how it worked. The K3B link is just the ticket. The memory is obviously going.

Cheers

Re: How to open a dvd tray - No buttons or pinhole

Thanks for that HughT. Open worked just fine. Like you, close didn't work for me, it put an extra colon in the command, not that I am bothered as closing is just a matter of pushing the tray as is usual. I do see though, that the command works only once. Having shut the tray I am once again unable t...

Re: Resolution of new LCD monitor not being auto detected

Thank you for the Mandriva version. Unfortunately once again that didn't work as the machine still booted into the usual 1024 x 768. I don't think that Mint 9 reads the xorg.conf file at all when it boots up. At least, that is the way it is looking to me at the moment. I am going to go away and slee...

Re: Resolution of new LCD monitor not being auto detected

Changed the xorg.conf as you suggested. Machine still boots into 1024 x 768. This is all over my head now. Can you say at which point in the boot process should the xorg.config be read. I ask as prior to me writing one the file did not exist at all so there must be a new system that defines the disp...

Re: Resolution of new LCD monitor not being auto detected

Just as an update and for the sake of clarity. I had previously written an xorg.conf file based around the one on my CentOS server but with the necessary changes. That had not worked, resulting in the monitor "going to sleep" (standby mode) Following you last advice the current xorg.conf now only co...

Re: Resolution of new LCD monitor not being auto detected

Logged in as root and wrote a fresh xorg.con containing only the lines you suggested. Rebooting was successful but the screen resolution stayed at 1024 x 768. Checking the GUI monitor preferences shows the following list of resolutions. 1360 x 768 (16:9) 1024 x 768 (4:3) 800 x 600 (4:3) 848 x 480 (1...

Re: Resolution of new LCD monitor not being auto detected

Thank you for the info and link oobetimer. I checked and found that I am running version 1.3.2 of xrandr. Running xrands resulted in: Screen0: minimum 1024x768, 1024x768, maximum 1024x768 default connected 1024x768+0+0 x0mm 1024x768 0.0* After reading the somewhat scanty information on this command ...

Resolution of new LCD monitor not being auto detected

Hi all, I am running Mint 9 (Isodora) with the usual Gnome desktop. I have just added a HP L1908wi monitor the resolution of which is 1440x900 @ 60 Hz. but get a 1024x768 screen after the initial splash. Lots of nothing around the sides of the visible area. The screen will not auto detect and no hig...

[Solved] Can I install KDE Mint from the web

Hi

Is there a web install disk for Mint 9 KDE. I cannot seem to find one anywhere despite Googling (is there such a word?) it. My DVD optical drive is not working so I only have a CD burner. Of course the KDE version comes on a DVD. Just my luck. :(

SOLVED Re: Locating and installing alien to convert rpm to d

Thank you Mick55 I had tried that before but after reading your post I realised that I had to select "Name" from drop down list. I had accepted the default, which was why I was getting nowhere fast. Thanks to you I am sorted (for now) I'll try to do better next time! Now, how do I mark this post as ...

Can anyone advise on how to get and install alien on my LM7? Every time I look for it I am offered a game.
I want to use it to convert a rpm package to deb. There is no deb available for the software that i need to install.

Re: How to install software for a Canon CLC3200 network printer

Hi David Thank you for you very explicit and helpful reply. I tried the first method you suggested and although I managed to get the printer to print a page or two of Ooo writer text, none of the facilities available on the printer were accessible as I had to make do with a 'near enough' driver. I t...

How to install software for a Canon CLC3200 network printer

Hi all I have just installed Gloria on a old eSys machine and need to add our office Canon CLC 3200 network printer. Canon list three packages at http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010073.asp but as far as I can see none of them are DEB packages. This is my first step into Linux but obviousl...

Re: A couple of questions :)

I have relative who is seriously into Centos, forum moderator, packages software into RPMs etc. His opinion is that the RPM route is far better than DEBs. I can't judge as I am still one of the great greenhorns.
