Re: Dual boot trying to change default operating system to linux

Thank you, this explanation is enough for me. No need to start a new thread. I just wanted the solution given to be "completely explained" for me and for future reference, and not asking for an apology or anything of that sort.

Anyway, let's close up the topic.

On a side note, there is some controversy on Grub-Customizer. You can read about it here, if you are interested:

Re: Restoring Grub Menu

Hi Andrew,

Yes, Grub Customizer has such a bad habit.

You can edit and replace the text to "Linux Mint" instead of "Ubuntu" within the program.

Re: Dual boot trying to change default operating system to linux

If your LM 19.3 installation has been successful, it's likely just a matter of adjusting your system's UEFI (NVRAM) boot order sequencing. It is this part that got me off-guard. Once managed to install, isn't it Grub's job to sort out the boot order? What does it have anything to do with UEFI boot ...

Re: Webcam no longer working after move to Mint 19.3

I guess I should install the missing UVC modules permanently? Seems really odd that they weren't there anyway. That part is easy, you just edit the file /etc/modules and append uvcvideo to the end. Open it with sudo nano /etc/modules write uvcvideo to the end, save with Ctrl+O and exit with Ctrl+X....

Re: Dual boot trying to change default operating system to linux

Correct me if I am wrong, as both my pc's are bios based, but the op seems to have successfully installed Mint and seems to be asking for a change of boot order in Grub. Assuming this is the case, does it have anything to do with UEFI boot order? I am also glad for the OP. However, the reasoning ab...

Re: moving desktop icons into start menu system?

It is in /usr/share/applications , but as this is a system-wide location, you should not mess with it. There is also ~/.local/share/applications as hidden in your home folder. Any custom desktop launcher placed here also show up in the menu. But you shoulduse a menu editor to stay on the safe side. ...

Thank you for your efforts. :)

Can you also please mention what powerline is, its basic uses and why and how it is useful? (esp. for non-vim users out there)

Re: Webcam no longer working after move to Mint 19.3

Well, I am as dumfounded as you are, at my wits' end with this. Let's see: On one hand, you have a webcam which worked before and which works now on Live DVD. On the other, the same webcam decides to play mischievous on the installed system, with same slots, same specs, same setup as the Live DVD. I...

A nice spoof indeed, thank you for sharing. :D

On a more serious tone, "Star Wars Rogue One" sets itself apart from the other sequels as a worthy predecessor of the saga. I advise Rogue One to all who didn't see it:

Hydrurga gave us a good lead. The error messages relate to those extra architectures and ppa sources which are unable to find packages for those. https://wiki.debian.org/ppc64el To see if you have any packages installed with i386 and ppc64el architectures: dpkg --get-selections |grep i386 dpkg --get...

Also if I am not mistaken, in XFCE settings, you should have the option of hiding the title bar when maximized.

Re: Webcam no longer working after move to Mint 19.3

Let's add the module "uvcvideo" manually (in effect only for the current session) and see if it makes any difference: sudo modprobe uvcvideo If it works this way, we shall make it permanent. Besides, did you ascertain that USB slot is not the culprit by trying other slots? Also to eliminate the poss...

For a change, can you also try this:

Code: Select all

apt update
apt is a modern filler for apt-get & apt-cache, with a more concise syntax.

You are most welcome. :D For the custom Live DVD, there was a tool for Ubuntu years ago, but I don't know if it is still viable or works for Mint for that matter: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization There is also a Live USB alternative with a resident storage space as you have sugg...

Great! That was also the first thing I did with Firefox.

Regarding the file manager (nemo), I don't think so. But let's wait for others to chime in with a better idea.
