Re: live resolution bump in Virtualbox

My two cents is; when you run Mint in a window in Virtualbox and resize it, the guest operating system (Mint here) adjust itself by changing its desktop resolution on the fly. But for that to be in effect, one needs to install "VirtualBox Extension Pack" which is available on their web page.

Re: LibreOffice 7.0

Guys hi, It's the first time I'm using Libre Office... I had some .docx on my external hard drive and some of them couldn't be open in LibreOffice... is there anything I can do? Those were written with M. Word. You can try WPS Office. They have a deb installer on their site. Although it is closed s...

Re: Problema con actualización de Zoom (mala instalación de paquete)?

Por primero, usted puede desinstalar todos esos otros paquetes innecesarios con:

Code: Select all

sudo apt autoremove
Pués, si usted ha instalado Zoom primero desde el gestor de paquetes, eso debe ser la versión Flatpak. Para averiguar si es el caso, ¿cual es el resultado del comando siguiente?

Code: Select all

flatpak list

I finally could do it by Synaptic (just search "papirus" find "papirus-icons" the go to Packages>Force Version>The old version) and then I used the second code you said.
You are welcome. Actually, you also taught me something; that Synaptic had such a capability.
Thank you in return. :)

Re: Go back to the old papirus-icons version

You can try downloading the old package for Ubuntu Bionic Beaver here: https://pkgs.org/download/papirus-icon-theme Then remove the new package with: sudo apt remove papirus-icon-theme Install this package by double clicking on it. And finally, freezing this version with: sudo apt-mark hold papirus-...

Re: How to set GSYNC compatibility mode permenantly in mint?

Hello again. This looks like a section from xorg.conf. Contrary to the popular belief, xorg.conf has not been completely disabled. It will be used if there is one under /etc/X11.

There are knowledgeable people on the forum, who will soon provide with a valid config file...

Re: Built-in microphone doesn't work after the system goes to sleep

Sleep (suspend) is a hit and miss issue in Linux. My laptop, for instance, could not resume from sleep, so I disabled it altogether.

Hope you will find a solution, anyway.

Re: How to permanently set monitor refresh rate to 144?

Based on this thread: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=98819 The file "monitors.xml" is indeed created by the GUI tool Display. As you have also noted, the XML file has a setting for the refresh rate, whereas the GUI which originates it doesn't. This oddity will apparently be remedied wi...

Re: How to permanently set monitor refresh rate to 144?

On a second thought, ".profile" runs whenever you login, including tty logins, whereas "xrandr" runs only in the graphical server. In this respect, the second option (i.e. starting the "makeshift" monitor refresh switcher at Cinnamon start) would be a better option. Nonetheless, this is but a workar...

Re: How to permanently set monitor refresh rate to 144?

Hi, There is a hidden file called ".profile", that runs each time the user logins. You can append the working line to the end of that file: xed ~/.profile and add the following: xrandr --output DP-2 --mode 2560x1080 --rate 144.00 Alternatively, you can add the same lines as a custom startup command ...

Re: Zoom meeting doesn't recognize version

Hi,

You must have installed Zoom from the Flatpak repo, since it doesn't exist in the default Ubuntu/Mint repos.
Pano01.jpg
So, basically you have two versions of Zoom in your computer. You should remove the older one (Flatpak) from the system via the Software Manager.

Re: Do you want to run... or display content

Nemo, the default file manager in Cinnamon should have a setting for this behavior (i.e. how to handle executable files) in its settings.
Pano01.jpg
It is under "Nemo File Manager > Edit > Preferences > Behavior".

Thank you very much @zaileion for the instructions. Unfortunately I have installed Mint Cinnamon, although Mate or Xfce is a command away: sudo apt install mint-meta-mate sudo apt install mint-meta-xfce and it is good to know that Compiz has been integrated to the system. Gnome 2 has a special place...

You possibly had a broken package that prevented installation or updates. Thanks @rene for clearing that up. :)

I didn't know that Debian Sid repo had the latest version of VLC. I'll probably fall into the dependency hell, but will give a try to install those packages on a virtual system.

Re: Is Linux mint is most customizable os ?

I think its the most customizable without completely building your own OS from a base distro like Debian or Arch. Especially if you choose to use Compiz and install Emerald. Its really unbelievable. I remember setting up Compiz-Emerald in Ubuntu and look at magic lamp effects and the cubic desktop ...
