Re: 32 Bit vs 64 Bit

My wife's laptop is a Samsung R522: Core2 Duo, T6400, with 4GB RAM and runs the main edition, x32-Julia. My laptop is a Lenovo W500: Core2 Duo, T9400 with 4GB RAM and runs x64-LMDE. On either machine one doesn't notice much difference with regular activities like emails, writing documents, not so la...

Of course one can always install startupmanger...
I don't why it's just not done as part of the default installation.

Re: [Solved] Login screen: disable user list

There is a proper way to make changes to our gdm3 greeeter, documented and confirmed working by me on a clean debian system. Mint users can also use the documented method to make changes, however, after a system restart the changes are lost and the changes made to the file have been overwritten. Sw...

Re: [Solved] Login screen: disable user list

Fascinating... I wonder why the Mint devs made this slight change? my folder has one extra file that yours doesn't... specific to gdm3... ls -l /etc/linuxmint/adjustments total 24 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 101 Aug 1 12:39 10-mintsystem-synaptic.overwrite -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2465 Nov 25 14:12 15-fire...

Re: [Solved] Login screen: disable user list

Interesting... so you don't have the /etc/linuxmint/adjustments folder?
Then let me ask you the same question, was your system installed with the first iso or the new one?

When the 64-bit LMDE was released a few days ago, I was up for doing a fresh installation... and yes, currently there are no updates outstanding. > apt-get upgrade Reading package lists... Re: Login screen: disable user list

Thanks ShexNivis! But I solved it and kinda came to your solution anyway: (a) it bothered me that /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-default was being replaced, so I did a search to find what would be doing that (b) found some interesting stuff that Debian should be doing but is not doing cos the Mint sysdev g...

[Solved] Login screen: disable user list

The main edition made this real easy... how do I disable showing users on the login screen? i.e. force user to type in name and pwd Thanks! EDIT: the following do not work (a) in the configuration editor | /apps/gdm/simple-greeter | disable_user_list = true (b) edit /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults ...

Re: LMDE 64bit - The 1st 64bit OS that I've ever used

I was using a number of versions of the main edition of Mint in 64-bit and when LMDE first came out I moved over. I could see that *some* 32-bit apps were slower... like those to do with media production. When the 64-bit LMDE arrived the other day I went for a fresh install, hey... it was the day af...

Re: Bragging about my small Mint PC

Could you post picture of this mini PC. Or is this just USB key with mint on it? What is so special about it? This is one of those Lexar 1.5 inch-long-no-moving-parts-regular-type USB keys, about a quarter inch thick. Here in South Africa we just refer to these as "USBs" as opposed to those devices...

Bragging about my small Mint PC

There are a few occasions when I get to promote Mint... mostly in the workplace. (a) Whenever someone is showing off their latest cool gadget and no matter how BIG the cool factor might be, I enjoy interjecting and I am still surprised when my USB PC upstages whatever (and occasionally another Mint ...

Re: How many people did you convert to Mint??

I've been using Mint since I received a promo CD with Mint 3.0 from a local Linux systems company [ http://www.tangent.co.za/ ]. By the end of 2008 I had three work colleagues also working with Mint. I decided that a fun goal for 2009 was to get at least one person a month to plan-A: to run Mint as ...

Really nice and informative. It's gonna be a really great Christmas should 64-bit LMDE manifest before 2011!
Well done to Clem and the Mint team!
