Re: Mint - Debian install experiences

Feedback on weekend update: Ok... when leaving the localization options (to default) the installer did its thing. Should've read the note that said that there was no localization in this early version, but hey... yay! Looks goods and works just fine (on a Lenovo W500). A couple of extra tweaks later...

Re: Mint - Debian install experiences

With the first attempt... the installer hung at "Localizing Firefox and Thunderbird". Stuff for a South African context obviously wasn't lekker. [for "lekker" read "nice" or "good", i.e. "not working so well"] Anyway tried to quit but the installer was unresponsive so forced a reboot. Next time arou...

Re: Linux Mint Debian (201009) released!

Outstanding, but I have to wait for the 64Bit release. Rough estimate for a 64Bit Debian release? You and me both ;) I have the apps to use it.. -Hinto Add me to that! While my hardware can run LMDE I have compiled 64-bit code... so I shall wait for LMDE 64-bit. But it sounds great on paper... err,...

Re: Mint burns laptops, please don't leave it to another distr

Given these threads... I was rather nervously curious when I installed Mint 8 on a new Samsung R522 that I bought the wife for Christmas. It's had about four weeks of Mint usage... and going well! Initially I tried to dual boot it with the pre-installed Windows 7 but that crashed the boot process en...

Re: Start the name suggestions for Mint 9 LTS

Since I've installed Mint on my mother's machine, she has a hard time remembering if it's Linux or Mint -- so -- she calls it LINT... Perfect!! Solved. The name for Linux Mint 9 is LINT. :) and to follow the 'a rule'... LINTA I also liked the proposals of Iliana and Ilyana, they're short and sound ...

Re: Linux Mint 8 "Helena" released!

Another great release! Nice. Thanks for your team's efforts Clem! I particularly do not like the FRESH logo but replacing it with the boot LINUXMINT wallpaper suits my tastes just fine... so other than that minor detail, the install was definitely faster... Helena and I are gonna be friends for the ...

Re: Mint 8 -- Quite disappointed. I'm going back to Ubuntu.

I'm also sorry to hear about your experience... fair enough comment and after all, that is what you experienced. There are one or two significant changes with this release but overall I experienced a much faster install and thus far seems to be better than Gloria. I particularly don't like the FRESH...

Unfortunately NOT... dicts.info and ipl.org are obviously online.
One needs a localhost option that resides as a panel or sys tray app.

Re: python installed but not showing up

start a terminal session and type python; this is helpful (i) to test that python is installed and (ii) for playing interactively with simple commands I found this google book tutoria l rather helpful once you're ready to move on from the interpreter, install Dive Into Python (see package manager) o...

Re: install XP without having to delete linux mint, possible?

I know this post is dated and you probably have your answer by now... but for the record IF you only had Linux installed and then wanted to dual boot to Windows you would have to sacrifice Linux initially. IF you did not first install Windows (to make/use the default MBR) then it wouldn't be possibl...

Re: Linux is Not Windows

After working with M$ platforms for so long--as in 1981 when I was asked for DOS support just because I was a COBOL programmer... go figure--when a Mint Live CD came attached with a local magazine I was curious to give it one more try! Prior to that my first attempt at Linux started when I bought a ...

Resolved: Removing captions from taskbar

Technically this is not solved and if you should have a solution.. great, post it!
My workaround was to remove the windows list panel and use the latest version of gnome-do (with the docky theme). Kinda reminds me of former Mac days... but hey, it really does work!!! :D

Guys... thanks for the input anyway!
One would think that because the default main menu is quite customizable that the other panel menus would allow similar functionality too.

Re: Docky - Better than AWN and Cairo dock

Can't comment at all about awn or other docking apps but I have been fiddling with gnome-do off an on. I could never quite get a handle on why it might be better than using the start menu or launching apps from a panel somewhere. Then I see this resurrected post and watched one or two google vids . ...

Re: Changing the font of the start menu

More context needed... I use LinuxMint Release 7 (Gloria) + GNOME 2.26.1 Re using gnome-color-chooser... I could report that it had no affect because I already tried it. While its Panel tab allows changing the font of the Start Menu, it only changes the actual menu selections (like say selecting Ac...
