Re: Best program (Programs) To Burn and Copy an Music CD.

I've recently burned some music CDs. I was using LM20 Cinnamon, but I think this should work for you too. Brasero + cdrdao I've noticed that cdrdao is automatically installed now with Brasero, but I don't think it was in the past. This might be a release dependent change. Ensure that cdrdao is insta...

Re: Not able to resolve display (driver) issue

... I'm wondering how the two 5.x kernels were installed on my machine since I have only installed LM19.2, and then upgraded to LM19.3. It happened during the 19.2 to 19.3 upgrade. When I updated ~30 machines from 19.2 to 19.3, I had an odd number in which the 5.x kernels were automatically selecte...

Re: Why, Why, Why are there still people out there who fail to BACK UP?

Hi welcome, No, must be OCD! I had a bunch of laptops that were in the process of being refurbished and needed testing ... started with a few, but I keep on working and one by one the number of units got bigger and bigger as the inventory grew. I just knew it, thats why i have 14 computers done the...

Re: Not able to resolve display (driver) issue

I'm not sure what to do with this info.... I think the question becomes "What's necessary to update the remaining kernels to support the NVIDIA driver?" I'm guessing, but the answer might be to execute (from your good 4.15.0-54-generic setup and assuming that disable-nouveau.conf is still...

Re: Not able to resolve display (driver) issue

If I counted correctly, I think this post has the solution . Link works great! Edit: To do this magic, mouse over the page number buttons at the bottom, copy the link. Then count the number of posts down and modify the start number! :D Edit2: Or, easier, cursor over the small icon next to your name...

Re: Why, Why, Why are there still people out there who fail to BACK UP?

Everybody should have 20 PCs all fully backed up. Not too sure here, but does that qualify as OCD ?...lol...DAMIEN Depends. Is the owner of 20 PCs running an office? No, must be OCD! Re: Re:

[EDIT] Do you think I should now delete the "Disable-Nouveau.conf" file created earlier to facilitate installing the Nvidia driver and update the Ramdisk for this Kernel so at least the Nouveau driver shows up on the list as an option? Yes, I was thinking you should do that for ... was it...

Re: Why, Why, Why are there still people out there who fail to BACK UP?

I too am like some crazy zealot with backups. Crazy backup zealot here too. Currently, 5 computers with identical setups and files, with a separate HDD backup on each, with external HDD backups with files back to 1980 (total currently 7), and 2 large USB with monthly backups (recent years only), an...

Re: Error found when loading /etc/profile:

The file is short, so post the entire file. You can create a local copy (there's many ways), but this will do it: cat /etc/profile > tempfile.txt Probably should also include inxi -Fxxxrz Might want to check over this, in case you haven't already https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=483574#p...

Re: How do I do a full install to a USB with 19.3?

One more ... I had some really old laptops (circa 2003) that I wanted use with Linux Mint. They would NOT boot from a good USB drive. The only solution I had was to create Linux Mint installer DVDs, which worked perfectly. I still have those DVDs, but the laptops were recycled for parts years ago. E...

Re: [SOLVED] USB keyboard and mouse not detected

For repetitive convenience these commands may be placed into a script named update-usbids and placed in the ~/bin directory after doing chmod +x update-usbids ... #!/bin/bash ## name this script as 'update-usbids' wget -c http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids sudo mv --force ./usb.ids /var/lib/usbutils/...

Re: Not able to resolve display (driver) issue

Take a look at ... man update-initramfs Specifically ... Update the initramfs of the newest kernel: update-initramfs -u Create the initramfs for a specific kernel: update-initramfs -c -k 2.6.18-1-686 Ah-ha! So, we need to use something like update-initramfs -u -k 4.15.xx-y Where x and y are the appr...

Save this for now ... just might disable nouveau for all kernels! sudo nano /etc/default/grub Find the line something like... GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" Add to that line... nouveau.modeset=0 ... such as ... GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nouveau.modeset=0"...

If you're asking how to install to a USB in such as way that you can use that USB with persistent storage, then take a look at this:

Re: i

First, according to the Nvidia site, the newest 304.137 driver is described as compatible with your video card, so I'm not sure why you chose to try an older version. Thanks! I see it now! I tried booting into that kernel, creating the "disable nouveau" file, updating and rebooting, but w...

Re: How do I do a full install to a USB with 19.3?

If I assume you have an .iso file and want to create a bootable live USB drive, and I assume you're in a Linux Mint Cinnamon OS, then do this: Right click on the .iso file, and select the option that says something like "make bootable USB" Or, start the "USB Image Writer" from th...

Re: Changing over to an SSD

If you're not successful with foxclone as mentioned by AndyMH, here's an alternative that should work, but maybe more work and requires an external usb enclosure. 1. Install the 240GB SSD and remove the 1T HDD. 2. Boot from your live Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon USB, and install it on your 240GB SSD. Just...

Re: [SOLVED] USB keyboard and mouse not detected

Just out of curiosity, please type "sudo update-usbids && sudo update-pciids" at the terminal command prompt, to update your system's USB and PCI device identification databases. This should look something like this ... $ sudo update-usbids && sudo update-pciids @hglee: To...
