Re: Bash sound volume question...

I wonder if this would work for you... paplay --volume 20000 /usr/share/mint-artwork/sounds/electronicdrops.ogg I don't have that file, but I did try ... paplay --volume 20000 /usr/share/mint-artwork/sounds/login.oga paplay --volume 40000 /usr/share/mint-artwork/sounds/login.oga You can set the volu...

Re: firewall settings

Makes sense, but I've never tried this in your specific set up, so it'll be a little experiment. Backup is always recommend before trying something new, and please be careful when performing the steps below. In Linux Mint, I assume you're running OpenSSH. You'll want to just do a few simple steps to...

Re: How to add Rainlendar2 to open on start-up

In Startup Applications, at the bottom middle, there's a + (plus) to add a new entry. In your case, you should be able to use the "Choose application" option. But, if it's not there, you might be able to use the "Custom command" option. If you use the "Custom command" o...

Re: Mint 20 wireless just stopped working

Is there a way to turn WiFi on and off on the laptop? I've had laptops that have a small switch on the side. Check that. Does your laptop have a function key to turn on and off WiFi? My laptop uses the F2 key, but yours might be different. Check that. Might check BIOS to see if somehow it got disabl...

Re: Touchpad behaviour in Cinnamon/MATE/Xfce/Kubuntu

I found a post from earlier this year that is about the middle click in the upper right corner. In this case, andrew0530 wanted to turn it off. Hello. After updating to Tricia 19.3 whenever I tap my touchpad in the top right corner, it does a middle click. This results in tabs closing, words pasting...

Re: firewall settings

I'm running a VM linux-mint with virtualbox and also use winscp. I've set up a firewall rule named SSH that has 22/tcp allow in anywhere and 22/tcp(v6) in anywhere. This works but I'm a little confused. Is there a way to restrict access so only winscp has access? No, not that I know of. But, you ca...

Re: Are there any known holes in Mint or Ubuntu that a skilled hacker can exploit?

Once upon a time, I used my firewall to deny all incoming and outgoing traffic, except for specific system and applications requirements. It's difficult to use because it usually breaks a lot of stuff. It took a lot of work to set up and maintain. I gave up on blocking the outgoing traffic. Instead,...

Re: install cs50 library on linux mint

If you're a complete newbie, why do you want to use cs50? Seriously, I'm really interested. What does cs50 give you that you can't do with the standard libs? Unless you know what you're doing, you probably shouldn't be doing this. From the GitHub release page, click on Source code (tar.gz) for the l...

Re: install cs50 library on linux mint

Is this for c or for python? I see instructions here for c: https://cs50.readthedocs.io/libraries/cs50/c/ And python: https://cs50.readthedocs.io/libraries/cs50/python/ I see this is what you're trying. I checked the c version, and get similar problems. Maybe better to download directly from GitHub....

I found out that the touchpad has different settings for taps at the corners, and if you tap at the bottom right corner it does Right click. Re: Hi there from a new Linux user

Welcome! Reading the posts is a great way to learn! Just be careful if you try some of the commands mentioned in the posts. Before trying out a new command, I'd recommend learning about the command first. You can either search online for info about the command, or you can use "man command "...

Re: How can I always start Mint with volume on mute and wireless off, even I powered off computer with volume up & wifi

Autostart Applications might be able to do this. I can't help with the WiFi setting, but the audio will probably work with this command: bash -c "pacmd set-sink-mute 0 1" We might need to tinker with that, or we could add a similar line to /etc/pulse/default.pa to do the same thing. For t...
