Re: update to KDE 4.5.1

In Linux Mint KDE, to enable the upstream updates from Kubuntu you may, just in this instance, try adding the backport and possibly beta repositories via the command line . When adding repositories or just wanting to view my sources from the Konsole, I use the following command: sudo nano /etc/apt/s...

Re: KNotify popups are behind the wallpaper.

I'm not sure Compiz plays nicely on the KDE Plasma Desktop. KDE has it's own built-in desktop effects that are pretty much equal to Compiz and optimized for KDE called KWin.

Re: Mint KDE Flash & Sound

Think I should upgrade to the latest version of KDE? Anyone think that will help? Hopefully someone will reply soon. Thanks. You may update your KDE installation, however that will not likely fix your sound issue. My suggestion would be to check out this issue, as reported on Launchpad , and see if...

Re: Could Mint (Or Anyone else) make a better search engine?

You might try Startpage. Especially if by freedom you mean privacy and keeping your data away from big corporations. You can even view the pages from the web results via a proxy. I know it's not exactly what you were looking for but probably is closer than what Google, Bing, etc are.

Re: Microphone is not working. Please help.

The first thing I would do is run alsamixer in a terminal and make sure all of your sound preferences are turned to the maximum setting (it's around the 15th bar to the right).

Actually, and quite amazingly, almost every facet of KDE has it's own IRC channel over on Freenode. Many friendly people and a great way to interact with the dev's directly 8)

Re: Disabling scollbars in a browser?

Not 100 pct sure, but since it's KDE there are tons of options available to you. I would try System Settings > Window Behavior and try to create a new window rule regarding the application you are trying to disable scrollbars in. If that doesn't work or is too complicated, I would ask over at the Pl...

Re: so what about LMNR??

Another option is to run Mint 9 KDE and update to KDE 4.5.1, as the KDE Plasma Netbook Workspace is available by default in System Settings > Plasma. In fact, you can easily change back and forth as needed, if you desire to do so :)

Re: "Remove this Desktop Activity"

All you should have to do is right-click on the desktop, select Add Widgets, and look for one called "Folder view". Just drag wherever you want it on your desktop. You can change where it points to by clicking the Wrench icon on the outside of the Widget. Hope this helps.

Re: Port MintMenu to Qt-KDE

Maybe this should be posted over in the Mint KDE Forums? In fact, I just posted something similar there. Esp. important since the announcement of the Smart Mint Menu. I really would love to see this happen.

Re: why I hate GNOME??, My personal Opinion

Take the case of Compiz, desktop effects, 3d cube, emerald theme, desktop background, desktop resolution, desktop themes, network manager ... and the list goes on. It is NOT intuitive at all. There is no reason to ever use Compiz in KDE. That's why it's not installed by default. KWin's effects do a...

Re: Couple of problems with KDE for a newbie

If you're not tied totally to Firefox, you can easily configure Konqueror to use Webkit by default, which makes it really nice for browsing and gives you total integration naturally within KDE. Instructions on how to do this are here. Another option is to use rekonq , which is scheduled to be the de...

Will Mint 10 KDE Include the New Smart Menu?

Since Clem's much lauded announcement regarding the new Smart Menu in Mint, the question needs to be asked - will this make it into Linux Mint KDE in V10 or at at some point after? Mint 10 Preview: Menu Search Engines Linux Mint Gets a (Really) Smart Menu Alternatively, it might just be easier to po...

Re: Broadcom open sources its drivers

Even better news here is that Canonical plans to include the Broadcom drivers to it's upcoming 10.10 release and even backport to 10.04. This is a huge win for Ubuntu, Mint, Linux, and FOSS in general! And really I'm surprised there has not been more said about it. You can read more about it, as wel...

Usually if your removal of an application in Mint is going to break something, you'll get a warning when you go to remove it. Do you recall such a message?

Re: Mint KDE Flash & Sound

One thing to try (I hadn't read above that you had tried it) would be to go to System Settings > Multimedia > Phonon and try changing the preferred order of your sound devices. On the 2nd tab you could try adding a different backend as well. It would be interesting to see if you 2 have similar set-u...
