Funny printing problem with Canon PIXMA MP140

I have Canon Pixma MP140 attached to Mint 14 machine shared via Samba/Cups. I was paying bills with another machine running Windows Vista. After paying I printed out the receipts. First one - OK. Second one - OK. Third one - the printing failed: The job was seen in Cups web page as "being processed"...

Re: smb.conf for Mint 14

There is no smb.conf at the moment (renamed it). Then what do you expect system-config-samba to do, create one? Erm... yes - like gadmin-samba did. Anyway, I copied my older try of smb.conf.old as smb.conf, startes system-config-samba, and it started. (Before re-installing I tries also with smb.con...

OK, here we go: $ gksu system-config-samba File "/usr/sbin/system-config-samba", line 45, in <module> mainWindow.MainWindow(debug_flag) File "/usr/share/system-config-samba/mainWindow.py", line 116, in __init__ self.samba_user_da$ gksu system-config-samba File "/usr/sbin/system-config-samba", line 4...

Re: smb.conf for Mint 14

I removed system-config-samba and installed it again.
Tried to start it in control center, and again - it asks for password.
When I give it and press enter, it disappears.

It doesn't seem to work with Mint 14 + MATE.
Any ideas which log I could peek in to see ẃhat's wrong?

Aboyt the forum

I put this here, because I couldn't find a subforum or anything for this forum itself. (Maybe there should be some site-related subforum?) Why is there the annoying search limitation: The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: nemo. You must specify at l...

Re: smb.conf for Mint 14

I installed system-config-samba. I started it from menu. I'm not using Cinnamon, MATE. ;-D I already copied the original smb.conf to be safe. Maybe it's that Nemo-mount. So, I need to make my user name a samba user too and add the "force user"? How do I remove Nemo-mount? It might be better to use c...

smb.conf for Mint 14 [SOLVED]

Can someone direct me to some way of configuring samba for Mint 14 such that anyone that can access my home netrork can access my disk share and use printer (on that Mint machine)? Preferably without passwords. It seems that some configuration tools are not doing a good job: GADMIN-SAMBA doesn't get...

Re: [Challenge] Help me install Mint 14 on a difficult PC

I'm not very familiar with EFI, but to my knowledge, the system boots either EFI-way or legacy-way. It's not upto the operating system. Did you check the 3rd pinned article in this section: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=97221 There is link to here: http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/...

Re: [Challenge] Help me install Mint 14 on a difficult PC

With EFI you don't use Grub but rEFInd.
Also, your HD graphics is disabled (from BIOS)? And you want to use nVidia?

Is this of any help?

Re: boot and reinstall problems

So where did you install Mint and how did you install the boot loader? Did you fix windows startup or anything? MBR is master boot record. If it was missing I guess Windows wouldn't have booted - unless EFI boot is used in which case you don't install Grub but rEFInd. As if the linux boot loader was...

How about the firmware? http://askubuntu.com/questions/81117/rtl8192ce-wifi-driver-issue Or this? https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-nettool/+question/217395 BTW, I understood that the driver should already be included in the kernel. Maybe there is just a device ID conflict that need...

Re: Checking MD5

You don't check the drive, you check the image (or other files).

Re: Better partition for Mint14

Looks good. I usually use Windows boot, because Windows tools can fix Windows disk problems, but they usually destroy Linux boot. To do that with XP, you install the Linux and add Grub to the beginning of the root (Linux) partition. Then you mount the Windows partition: mkdir /media/win mount -t ntf...

Re: Hangs/Crashes when booting from Installation DVD

Now that you didn't mention, you have 64-bit CPU?
Have you checked the image against the checksum from the download site (MD5 or SHA)?

It's just that cinnamon is heavier and probably less stable (yet) than MATE.

I think Gnome (or Mate) is the most commonly used.

Re: No Boot: Mint 14

So you formatted the old windows partition for Linux and set the mountpoint as root ("/")?
Then, with the boot loader, what did you do with it? Installed in MBR (overwriting the MBR)?
Installed in the beginning of the root partition?
There is no EFI-boot involved?
