Re: Problems because of a capacitor ?

For the solder I have, I verifyed and it contains lead :( : I think I'll try with it, but ... If you run into problems, the flux-pen probably helps, and remember, the lead free solder melting point is a bit higher than the old standard 60/40 leaded solder. Re: Will Mint Install over another Ubuntu version

I'm not sure, but is it possible you are running LiveCD from memory stick?

The LiveCD IS the OS. It just runs in the memory (using the optical disk or whatever) as the "Frozen" disk. Nothing is installed on the HD. Any settings you make will be lost when you shut down the system.

Re: Touchpad problem in LM14

I had problems with my pad (Thinkpad T42, synaptics touchpad, Mint 13). It's still a bit inaccurate, but getting an older driver helped quite a lot. I'm using xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu. The default version worked fine with Thinkpad T400, but was very "nervous" with T42. "less /...

Re: need your opinion about this hardware

I'm not sure how it fits, but ...and that kernel is for last generation processors i think. I guess that means it supports ALSO the last generation processors. I would be amazed if your processor caused any problems. I'd rather think, it's the other funny "HW-inventions" that laptops often have, tha...

Re: LinuxMint 14 Internet Issues RealTek card

Did Linux identify the card right (lspci lshw)?
Do you have the right driver?
Also, how's the power saving settings? I hope the power isn't switched off from the network card.

(Just thoughts...)

Re: No Dual Boot?

Live.CD? Basically, I'd advice you to install Grub onto the root partition, and use EasyBCD (community edition) to add Linux to the Windows boot menu. If you get disk problems, Windows-tools typically expect to finf Windows boot on MBR. By using Windows boot loader as the primary boot, both Linux an...

Re: Suspend Issue

I have Mint 14 on Thinkpad T42, and my problem is that half the times, the machine doesn't get into suspended state. Are you sure you don't have that same kind problem? I can tell about my machine, because the suspend-led keeps blinking. If it suspends alright, the suspen-led stops blinking and stay...

Re: Will Mint Install over another Ubuntu version

I remember that replacing dual booted linux is not that simple. Linux typically doesn't suggest overwriting another linux distro,
If that's the situation, I suggest reformatting the partition with Mint LiveCD.

Re: Mint 14 installer does not see 2nd HDD

First, what actually is listed? Second, Is there room for Mint on the 2nd HDD? Third, where were you going to install Mint? If you wanted to overwrite some partition, it probably goes easier if you used LiveCD (or something) to delete the partition (and maybe create it unformatted) and let the Mint ...

Re: Problems because of a capacitor ?

As such, the capacitors are somewhat easy to exchange, but it would be good to first find out if leadfree solder is used. Leaded and leadfree solder shouldn't be mixed, because they tend to separate from each other making a bad contact. Leadfree solder needs a bit higher temperature and I recommend...

Re: Problems because of a capacitor ?

I don't think that the capacitor is bad - but of course it could be. The symptoms can be strange. Typically that big capacitors are often found close to the processor, and they tend to go all at about the same time, because a malfunction of one forwards the "load" to the other ones. Typically bad ca...

Xorg.conf for Intel HD Graphics?

What should the xorg.conf look like for ivy bridge? I run X -configure and got an xorg.conf with: Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices. Configuration failed. Server terminated with error (2). Closing log file. It now looks like this (4 screens in server layout): Sectio...

Motherboard support?

It seems that the HCL-pages are not much updated, or I haven't found the right ones yet.
Anyway, I'm planning to get a new MoBo, and I wonder if these are working file with Linux:

ASRock H77M
ASRock B75 PRO3-M
MSI B75A-G43

Which one would you recommend, if any of these?

Which would you recommend: Cinnamon or MATE: (A friend's machine, not mine: I don't have more detailed specs at hand) - about 2 years old desktop, powerful, but not state of the art - basic stuff: net surfing, e-mail, music videos from net, messenger - some music related SW (Hydrogen, tab-sw, note w...

Kaneli vai kamu

Kaverilla on pari vuotta vanha kone - ei mikään ruuhen ankkuri, vaan ei ihan kirkkainta kärkeäkään. Kumpi mahtaisi olla järkevämpi vaihtoehto: kaneli (cinnamon) vai kamu (MATE) ? Kysymys on lähinnä 3D vaatimuksesta, heittämällä toimuivien softien määrästä, yleisyydestä ja jatkuvuudesta. Eli: - Sopiv...
