Re: Cinammon or MATE on old-ish 1GB RAM netbook?

Which would you recommend: Cinnamon or MATE: (A friend's machine, not mine: I don't have more detailed specs at hand) - about 2 years old desktop, powerful, but not state of the art - basic stuff: net surfing, e-mail, music videos from net, messenger - some music related SW (Hydrogen, tab-sw, note w...

Kaneli vai kamu

Kaverilla on pari vuotta vanha kone - ei mikään ruuhen ankkuri, vaan ei ihan kirkkainta kärkeäkään. Kumpi mahtaisi olla järkevämpi vaihtoehto: kaneli (cinnamon) vai kamu (MATE) ? Kysymys on lähinnä 3D vaatimuksesta, heittämällä toimuivien softien määrästä, yleisyydestä ja jatkuvuudesta. Eli: - Sopiv...

Now after all this, which would you recommend: Cinnamon or MATE: (A friend's machine, not mine: I don't have more detailed specs at hand) - about 2 years old desktop, powerful, but not state of the art - basic stuff: net surfing, e-mail, music videos from net, messenger - some music related SW (Hydr...

<SOLVED> Wrong NIC

I installed 32-bit Mint 12 (Lisa) as a dual boot with 64-bit Windows 7, and I need both systems. The thing is: I just found out that Mint has set the NICs in different order than Windows 7. The Intel-NIC integrated onto the motherboard (PCI-bus) is interface 0 in Windows 7, but eth1 in Mint. The oth...

Installing boot [SOLVED]

Does the default installer still have the option that you can tell where to install the boot (Grub2)? Does updating the kernel take into account where the boot is installed? I'm asking this, because I now have Vista / Ubuntu dual boot, and the last Ubuntu auto-update broke the Linux boot. I use Vist...

Re: sudo gedit error when launched from terminal

The first command seems to be enough, but thanks.

I don't mark this solved, because this thread was started by ds2992, not me, and I don't know if
ds2992 is done with this.

Re: Samba shared printer from Vista - cannot connect

Re-login on windows PC and re-installing drivers after the samba-tampering, and it started to work!
It still says that connection cannot be made, but it printed out the test page all of a sudden
(after couple of minutes of waiting).

Thanks!

Re: Samba shared printer from Vista - cannot connect

The windows-machine I've beem fighting with is KOOLAP. Haven't tried anything with KAYA-PC yet. Re: Samba shared printer from Vista - cannot connect

Tried that, but no change. Still status: access denied, cannot create connection. Is there a good way to revert back to the "default" smb.conf without all the "noise" added by the Gadmin-Samba? (Didn't know it should be avoided... touched it once...) Maybe someone has a good &quo...

When did something change and what? Any pointers?
I recall using "sudo gedit" with Debian, Ubuntu and (earlier) Mints, and they didn't give those complaints.

Samba shared printer from Vista - cannot connect [SOLVED]

I've been trying to share a printer (Canon PIXMA MP140 with MP150 drivers) connected to a machine running Mint 11. It works fine from the mint, but trying to use it from a windows vista machine doesn't. When I try to install a network printer in the vista machine, it is found, but first it says that...

Re: Mounts and windows partitions in dual boot

How does the access happen by default (Mint 11)? The Nautilus can browse the windows partitions even if there is apparently no sign of mounting them. How? The mounts do not mess up with the "default" way of access? Oops, even if, while browsing the windows partition, there is no NTFS-entry...

Mounts and windows partitions in dual boot [SOLVED]

I tried searching, but didn't come up with an answer... How does Mint handle Windows-partitions when installed as dual boot? I didn't find them in mtab nor fstab even if I was browsing them with Nautilus? I'd like to make them shared via samba, but what do I share? I can't find them in directory tre...

Re: linux-headers - which to install?

Aha, thanks, wyrdoak, that pretty much says it about "pae".

Does anyone have answers to the other question:
Is there such a pseudo-package that is essentially "linux-headers-current-kernel"?
Or which linux-headers -package(s) I should install?
