Re: Hi and thanks in advance

Many of us have begun Mint by dual booting with Windows. Keep it as long as you find it useful, but you might, after some months, discover you have a couple more 10GB partitions available to play with. Maybe try LM12, maybe some other Linux.

Have Fun!

Re: administrator privileges required creating a truecrypt v

Your Truecrypt partition or file can only be accessed by running Truecrypt, selecting the device, mounting it, and then entering two passwords. You will first be asked for the password you used when encrypting the device. It will then ask for your user password, the one you use to login or do system...

Re: Audio keeps playing after closing browser

Some scripts can launch an independent player. If you run the Resource Monitor and look in the Processes tab, you can probably ID and kill it.

Re: somebody can help me?

Sorry I can't give a direct answer, but you might find running gconf-editor will give access to the setting that defines how the menu bars are presented. If so, you may need to use gksudo to run it as root before you can change the relevant variable. Edit to add, this guide to matacity may add some ...

Great link!

Other sets of places running Linux include dedicated devices. I probed through some of the settings of my Dish Network Satellite box and came across fsck as an option.

Re: Compiz cube caps not showing up...?

That is what a working system looks like. I guess I am not yet understanding the nature of the problem you are encountering. Can describe what you do or attempt to do and what happens that seems to be a problem? If you have the cube activated and want to use the mouse to spin it up and down as well ...

Re: How to play Plants vs Zombies in Mint?

I am using LM11 and you are using LM10, thus my error about what newer kernels would appear in the Update Manager. I've looked around and found some suggestions for solving different problems. If you can quote the error message you receive and let us know what you do to try to start the game and wha...

Re: Compiz cube caps not showing up...?

It seems others are as puzzled as I am. Maybe if you post a screenshot of the Settings window where you see "configure the color of the cube cap color" it would help. Below is mine. Clicking on Cube Cap Colors brings up the Top and Bottom options below. Clicking the color bar opens a Color Chooser w...

Re: How to play Plants vs Zombies in Mint?

Anything that works in Ubuntu that uses the same generation of Kernel should also work in Mint. There can be conflicts or incompatibilities, of course. For example, Mint 11 chose to sick with the older Gnome 2 Desktop Manager, while Ubuntu uses Unity, and stuff intended for one will be a problem whe...

Re: hplease help issue installing app

You can add a Menu entry by right-clicking the Menu icon on the Panel. Select New Item. Give it a Name, maybe Cycle, and enter the command as cycle. You can create a Launcher on the Desktop by right-clicking and choosing Create Launcher. Give it a name and the command is again the same, cycle. Play ...

Re: How to play Plants vs Zombies in Mint?

If it is a video card drive problem, as suggested, Control Center/Additional Drivers would be the first step. If nothing shows up there, searching the manufacturer's site may turn up something. If not, searching the web with your card and ubuntu as part of query might find some advice.

Re: top

Open the Control Center from the Menu. Within the System section you will find the System Monitor. Start it, open the Processes tab and click the CPU heading to show the most CPU intensive at the top. That may show some process taking up a lot of CPU cycles. Then right click on the icons in the bott...

Re: linux is fast,but....

Transmission revised its site, so no link, but the point in their FAQ was made that allowing unlimited upload links kills/slows download speeds. Set your upload limits to 1/2-1/4 max and play from there.

And keep having fun!

Re: Can't move windows around screen.

These are all options within the CompizConfig Settings Manager. Go to the Windows Management section and play around. Other sections as well. Changes take effect immediately, so you can try and back out of anything. No need to reboot first.

Have Fun, and then more!

Your problem seems to be that the indicator-applet is running at 101% of your CPU. It is normally zero until you click it, and then only a very short CPU burst. Despite the season of the year, Zombies shown in Linux are generally totally dead, and as you will see, eat no CPU brain cycles. You probab...

Re: Gnome help missing.

The easy solution is at http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 96#p468761. Read through the whole thread. Long term, the Gnome team is moving on to Gnome3+, and Mint also, and mind power is all going there.

No idea about the main problem you describe, but as for the last one, install Compiz fusion icon, run it, right-click and select window decorator and choose another one and then select GTK and all will be back.

Re: Help with Compiz Fusion

I kept the LM11 default Compiz and had no real problems, just a bit of confusion at first. There has been at least one upgrade and I added the extras package. So far as I can tell, everything works perfectly, including cube effects, except tor the window decorator. Some actions (I think invoking the...
