Use ScroogleSSL for searches (use 'manage seach engines'

in the search box in Firefox to find it) and use the Firefox add-on "NoScript" to block google-analytics and other trackers.

As another newbie and without a microphone, I right-clicked on the speaker icon on the bottom right of the screen and found the mic and line-in settings were set at zero. Totally appropriate for my machine, but you might want to look at those settings on yours.

Thank you for your helpful advice. I changed the server to the US Server and the reload process functioned as expected.
