Re: Connecting Mint to network printer hosted on Debian

That's very interesting...the IP that the name Debian resolved to (198.105.244.11) belongs to Search Guide Inc. ?? I'm really not sure how you got that IP for the name resolution. But let's move on... It may be that the Debian box has its firewall running and blocking pings from everywhere. I'll ass...

Re: Error Mounting External Drive

Hi Sunshine,

Have you tried mounting via the Disks utility in the menu? It handles most of the mount options for you.

Re: Connecting Mint to network printer hosted on Debian

Hi AC, So let's confirm a few network things before jumping to the printer connectivity. Can you ping the Debian box from your Mint box by name? ping debian -c4 If this resolves the name to the correct IP and you get 4 replies (instead of timeouts or Destination Host Unreachable) then things are goo...

Hi Trope,

It would probably be better to get a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter such as this one http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Disp ... B001S2PYQY.

Re: Have question about raid and disk clonning.

Hi vl1969, It sounds like you really would like a hardware RAID1 setup with 2 drives. Most modern motherboards with SATA ports also have the ability to do RAID 0/1/5 for drives connected to those ports. You would configure this RAID for 2 drives from the BIOS though instead of inside of the Linux in...

Re: PC behind VPN and router, possible to connect to using S

Actually, if you are getting a download rate of 250 kilobytes/second over a 1 megabit upload speed line, you are getting great speed. The normal max transfer for a 1 megabit link is 125 kilobytes/sec.

Re: Memory RAM keeps running / chugging

Just curious but with 64GB of RAM, why are you using swap at all? It may be save to remove swap altogether or just reduce your default swappiness setting. See more here.

Re: FTP - mysterious problem, can't upload ...

Sure! If you go to Menu -> Preferences -> Network. Then choose your network interface in the left column of the window that appears. Then click the wrench and screwdriver button in the lower right corner of the details area. In the new window that appears, select Identity on the left. On the right, ...

You may need to look into something like TeamViewer (free for personal use).

Re: FTP - mysterious problem, can't upload ...

Hi MintyMorkyMindy, I recently helped someone else with a similar issue. The end resolution for them was to reduce the MTU setting on the network interface in Mint from 1500 to a slightly lower value (1492 or 1450). This then allowed Filezilla to properly interact with the remote FTP site. You may w...

Re: sftp working on windows but not on mint

Do you have visibility into the logs of the SFTP server as well? It may give clues to what is happening with the two-way communication efforts with your client.

Re: Automate file sync and/or backup suggestions?

Hi SC23!

Have a look at lsyncd https://code.google.com/p/lsyncd/. This still uses rsync but serves as a wrapper that handles the automated portion of the sync.

Re: USB stick dont work, how to force mount?

Hi Legloas, You could try using the Disks utility in Cinnamon (Menu -> Administration -> Disks) and see if it recognizes the USB stick. If so, then you could do the formatting and partitioning of the stick within the application. If not, then you could try using GParted or a command line tool like c...

Re: Home Linux Media Wireless Network

I agree that using the router USB port should be pretty dead simple for sharing your content. However if you want to stream it from your desktop, then I'd recommend loading up a streaming media software that can handle DLNA streaming. Then plug in the USB drive and add it as a media source. Some rec...

Re: Laptop connected to wifi but no internet

Hi, Do you know if you are receiving a default route? (should be the first entry in the route table and says default for the Destination). If so, can you ping it? Is this a school network, home network, or other wireless? Do you know if you have to provide credentials to authenticate on the wireless...

Hi Jonathan! So we can more accurately help you with setting up your equipment, can you please list the make/model for the TV and wireless router? Also, is the desktop connected via WiFi or is it wired to the router? I'm assuming the TV is on WiFi? This may be as simple as loading a media server sof...

Re: sftp working on windows but not on mint

This seems to be more an issue with your networking in general rather than a SFTP specific problem. Is this machine connected via wireless? Does it use DHCP or static IP addressing? Have you noticed other odd behavior from the Mint system when doing anything over the network or on the Internet? You ...

What connections do you see in the Network Settings window of Network Manager? (also reachable from the "Menu -> Preferences -> Network" menu item)
