Re: How to Install Flashplayer in Chrome

Hi Jerry! Just checking, but are you certain you have the official Google Chrome Browser installed and not the open source Chromium browser (what Google Chrome is based on)? The official Chrome browser includes flash support via the pepperflash plugin (newer than Adobe's flash plug-in). But this is ...

Re: Connetcing to VirtualBox Win7 via http

If I had to guess, I'd say try turning off the Windows Firewall in the Win7 guest. Also, if you have an AV software package that includes firewalling (i.e. Norton 360), then you have to turn off that firewall for inbound connections to work.

Cheers!

Re: [P] No connection to Internet using WLAN adapter

Is the "USB WLAN stick" a 3G/4G USB Modem? WLAN is an acronym referring to Wireless LAN which still requires a wireless router or access point to provide connectivity. If it is just a wireless LAN adapter, then it will still need to traverse your router and then your upstream modem to reach the Inte...

Re: [P] No connection to Internet using WLAN adapter

Hi C.Monty, Can you provide more details about the "failure of the modem"? Based on your description I would expect your network to look like this. {Internet}<----phoneline---->[DSL Modem]<----Ethernet---->[Router]<----Ethernet or WLAN---->[LMDE system] If you're DSL modem failed, then it doesn't ma...

Hi Nomko,

It appears from the specs on that laptop that no integrated graphics are present so it looks like you will want the Optimus driver.

Re: Linux Mint 17 issue resolving IP within browser

Hi sneakybadger, Can you reach this website from other computers? Is this a website (or IP) you can share with us (is it publicly accessible) for testing purposes? All that the ping utility will confirm is that there is a live machine that is not blocking pings at that IP address. It does not confir...

Any reason you are not using the official Cisco AnyConnect client for Linux? It works like a charm.

Re: OpenConnect setup to corporate network

Hi Nimjox, So just for clarity, on Windows you authenticate using a username/certificate instead of username/password when you connect the VPN client? I use the Anyconnect client almost daily but we use user/pass for authentication where no customization is required on the client. It just "works". C...

Re: Periodic DNS Issues? Using DHCP

Hi afasoas, This may resolve your issue (worked for another user with similar DNS problems). By default, Ubuntu (and Mint) have a base version of dnsmasq that is run and managed by NetworkManager. Essentially, it positions itself as a local DNS resolver with the configuration set to forward requests...

Re: ppa for Evolution ?

Hi Justtrying, Evolution is heavily integrated and dependent on the Gnome desktop environment. As such, it is usually updated when the Gnome desktop is upgraded for a system (which is not often). The short answer is that it will get updated automatically. I wouldn't recommend trying to manually upda...

Re: Rsync from my desktop to my laptop

Ok, so for clarity, both machines are running Mint or a version of Linux right? The rsync command we have listed assumes that 192.168.1.3 is the IP address of your laptop. We are not as concerned with the IP of the desktop but they do need to see each other on the network. So.... Let's assume the de...

Re: minecraft java error?

Hi Dragoncraft,

It looks like you do not have OpenGL running in your current video driver stack (usually Nvidia or AMD video drivers use this whereas most built-in video cards do not).
Can you post the output from this?

Code: Select all

inxi -G

Re: cifs shares

Hi apt-get, First, you should not mount remote shares to the /media directory. Mint and Ubuntu use /media for automounting media such as USB drives and such (i.e. /media/usbdrive1). If you mount a remote filesystem to this location it can cause problems if the system is then asked to manage removabl...

Re: Rsync from my desktop to my laptop

Hi Eric,

You've just about got it. The destination side needs to have a directory location specified for where to look for the sync operation. If the remote directory I want the data in is found at /home/eric/syncdump then

Code: Select all

rsync -avz /home/eric/music/ root@192.168.1.3:/home/eric/syncdump/

Re: Wifi not connecting at my college? (Linux Qiana Cinnamon

All of the info posted seems to indicate that you are connected to the WiFi network. Can you be more specific about what's not working? Since it's a college campus, there is a high likelihood that they have either a NAC (network access control) system in place or an authenticated proxy that you must...
