Re: Unable to get drives to mount on boot

Hi Hakujin, Your first attempt with this line in the fstab <UUID=123456789101112 /media/ntfs ext4 defaults, noatime 0 2> didn't work because you specified the filesystem for the mount as ext4 instead of ntfs. Here is another thread that addresses this exact setup very well. http://forums.linuxmint.co...

Re: Bridge Wifi & Ethernet (join connections as one)

So if you are going to create a bridge, then don't configure any connection sharing as that would conflict or duplicate what we are configuring. Create the new network connection (type Bridge). Add the Wifi and Eth0 interfaces to the bridge interfaces list (you'll have to specify them by Device MAC ...

Re: Bridge Wifi & Ethernet (join connections as one)

Ok that's much clearer :) This should be pretty easy actually. In NetworkManager, you can create a new network connection of type Bridge. In the setup of the bridge you will specify which interfaces are participating and all of the relevant info about it. You should then be able to set your other LA...

Re: Bridge Wifi & Ethernet (join connections as one)

Hi Protocol77,

Your question is a bit confusing since you state you want to share the Internet over your PC's ethernet adapter to PCs that do not have an ethernet adapter. Can you please clarify exactly what you want the setup to look like?

Thanks!

Re: So I did something stupid...

I hate to say it but the system lock ups problem could be nearly impossible to troubleshoot since it can't write out the log of what happened.

If at all possible I would backup any documents you want to keep (pictures, etc) and perform a clean re-installation of LM17. :(

Re: The same distro in two partitions?

I would probably not take this approach due to most of your account configuration being retained within the home directory. Any changes to desktop, application preferences, accounts, etc. would bleed over into your "stable" installation. A better test bed would be to just spin up a 2nd install of LM...

Re: LAN Connectivity Only (Mint17) HP Elitebook 8570w

Ok so after some digging, I've come up with a fix for you I think. By default, Ubuntu (and Mint) have a base version of dnsmasq that is run and managed by NetworkManager. Essentially, it positions itself as a local DNS resolver with the configuration set to forward requests upstream (to DHCP Assigne...

Re: LAN Connectivity Only (Mint17) HP Elitebook 8570w

If you open a browser and go to http://64.233.185.138 does it show you the Google homepage? It shouldn't be necessary but if you want to delete the NICs and have them be rediscovered, then open Network Connections, select the desired connection and click the Delete... button. Upon reboot, the NICs s...

Re: LAN Connectivity Only (Mint17) HP Elitebook 8570w

Yes, your configured DNS servers are not responding or not correct. You can either pull the configured DNS servers from a working system (Windows or other) and put those in your network setup or you can configure external DNS servers (those not in use at your office). The side effect of option 2 is ...

Re: LAN Connectivity Only (Mint17) HP Elitebook 8570w

Hi DogeIsFriend, There are two likely causes of the issue you are describing. Fortunately, both are fairly easy to resolve. First, let's verify if you can reach a remote Internet IP address... Test #1 ping -c 4 4.2.2.1 If it is successful, then you should see this response...the time numbers will no...

Re: Finding an open source Cad application

Hi Jo,

I'm curious what you ran into with the free version of DraftSight. The install is a 30-day trial of the Pro version but beyond a registration requirement, there should be no cost to continue using the free version.

Cheers!

Hi Bohdan,

Did you try the standard dpkg remove method?

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg -r viber

Re: SSH remote access - monitor access IP address

Hi Stormin,

You can check the auth.log file to see the history of SSH sessions. It shows what account login was attempted and where it's from.

Code: Select all

cat /var/log/auth.log | grep sshd
Cheers!

Re: Laserjet 451 - Use both ethernet and USB?

Hi Jerry,

I assume when you say active, that you mean both ports can service print jobs. If so, then yes, you can send print jobs to the printer over USB and over Ethernet. The printer will receive and process jobs in order.

Cheers!

Re: Plex and NAS

Hi Darthlinux, In all likelihood, the issue is due to how the NAS is mounted on your Mint system. If you mount it from your logged in user account, then the mount defaults to restricting the permissions on the mount to allow just your user account have visibility into it. Since Plex runs under a Ple...

Re: Compress PDF-files

Hi lost_shinigami,

For the script to work on Nemo, you have to adjust one of the variables it calls within the script. On line 150, change NAUTILUS_SCRIPT_SELECTED_FILE_PATHS to be NEMO_SCRIPT_SELECTED_FILE_PATHS.

Save the script and put in in your ~/.gnome2/nemo-scripts folder.

Cheers!

Re: How to Install utorrent on Linux Mint 17 KDE?

Hi Chindi, The ln command in the tutorial you provided is not absolutely required. All that does is put utserver in the default path so it can be run without specifying the full path to the executable. You can skip that step and still launch the server by providing the full path to the executable wh...

Re: [mint 17] mount share on boot

Hi DC80,

What you'll want to do is setup the autofs to mount the network share on demand. This way, it will get mounted when you access it (presumably after the VM is up and the share is reachable).
See more here...https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Autofs

Cheers!
