Re: Gnome versus XFCE

I like the information. But I still cannot figure out what the differences are between Mint Gnome and Mint XFCE, other than speed and the appearance.

Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

Re: All Mint flavours in my box!

I count it! I have a couple of mints on here, too... :) xfce and standard gnome. xfce is a lot faster. It's an old machine. Is speed the main difference in the two? I posted in another thread that I am returning to Mint and I am wondering if I should go back to the XFCE edition that I was running o...

[SOLVED] Gnome versus XFCE

Okay, I have to admit that I strayed for awhile. I switched over to PCLinuxOS. That is a good OS, but it does not suit my needs and desires. I need to come back to Mint. But I want to ask a question or two first. I was running Mint 7 XFCE and I was very happy with it. But I would like to know what t...

Re: Unable to hibernate

Okay, found the menu item you mentioned, and I am using Nvidia version 180. Says it has been testeed by LinuxMint developers. Last night, my computer would go into hibernate. I will see if it keeps working correctly. I would really rahter not order a disk for Mint 7, since I want to wait for Mint 9 ...

Model: MS-7309 (version 1.0)
Manufacturer: MSI
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+

Anything else needed? That is what I found, but I know that if I can find it, there is more info available.

Unable to hibernate

I have been using Mint 7 Xfce for several months and I love it. But I have run into a problem. In the last couple of days, my computer will not hibernate. When I click to hibernate, all it does is log out. I have been shutting down, but I do not like to do that all the time. Suspend never worked cor...

Re: Linux Mint (Is this possible???)

I love Mint, too. I used Ubuntu for a short time, but I hated the brown, and couldn't run some of my media. Linux Mint has been great for me ! I'm never going back to Windoze. I'm switching my mom's computers over, too. Although I'm running PCLinuxOS on hers because it works better for her job. And ...

Re: HP Laserjet 4plus

I've tried almost everything in this post (and the rest I don't think I would do right). The latest thing I tried again was the hp-install. It will not even locate my printer. Thanks for the help and advice everyone. I think I'm just going to have to put a newer printer on here, I have access to an ...

Mupen64 controller

Does anyone know where to find a program for setting and using the keyboard for controller in this emu? Or where I can pick up a controller that will work?

My expensive Logitech controller will not connect with the roms in Mupen64 and I really want to play them.

Re: Wireless Mouse and Keyboard

I just got a Logitech MK300 desktop set the other day. It works just fine with Mint, and it was actually much easier to install (really just had to plug it in) than a similar wireless set was to get hooked up to my mom's XP computer. In fact, everything except my printer (question about that is in a...

Hibernate from login screen

I almost always hibernate my computer when I am not on it. But to do that, I have to be logged in. I would really like to be able to hibernate from the login screen, so that when my computer is hibernating, someone else cannot come in and turn it back on and be in my computer profile. Any chance of ...

Re: HP Laserjet 4plus

Tried that when I first started using Linux and it didn't work. I have done it twice in Mint. When I try to print, my printer gives me an error message that says "invalid pers" or does not do anything. I searched that and what I found was to use HPLIP, but that is not working either. Thank you for t...

HP Laserjet 4plus

I am having trouble getting that printer to install. I love Mint and I will not change, but I need to print. I have downloaded HPLIP and gone through the steps on the HP web site. But when I run the configure command, I get a message that it cannot find "python-devel support" (I do not know what it ...

[SOLVED] ZSNES question.Probably been answered somewhere...

but I can't find it. I just switched from Ubuntu because I like the look and feel of Mint a lot better. I am using the Xfce edition. And I downloaded ZSNES because I love the old Mario games. I cannot figure out how to run it. I saved all the ROMs so I have the games, but how do I open ZSNES? I real...
