[SOLVED] Cinnamon very slow on NVIDIA NV36

I am running Mint 13 Cinnamon. Yesterday I completely unplugged my computer and put in a new graphics card, so that I can run dal monitors. I have not connected the second monitor yet, but the new graphics card is working, and became the default when I turned my computer on today. But my desktop ayo...

Re: I think Linux has got this one :)

Here's my two cents, for what it's worth. Win8 is too focused on touch-screen-ability, from what I have seen. And they have taken away many of the tools upon which computer users have come to rely, most noticably the start menu, which has been a mainstay of computing since there has been a GUI. MS h...

Re: How to move my Fiefox profile from Windows to Linux Mint

You can also copy your profile onto external media dn then paste it into the new system. That is what I do. To do so, open Firefox, then click on Help in the drop down menu, go down to Trouble-Shooting Information, and click on that. It will open a new tab. In the new tab, there is a button that sya...

I never had a problem with NVidia drivers. I am having trouble with ATI drivers. They refuse to download and/or install.

Re: Desktop Environment differences

I think the correct answer is just to try someout and see what you like. I started my Linux journey with Ubuntu 9.04 using Gnome and quickly found that I disliked it. So I did a little mor research and tried Mint with Gnome, still did not like Gnome so I moved to xfce. I used that for quite awhile a...

I personally like the Black Velvet theme from gnome-look and the Plasma Shock theme from xfce-look. But I do not know if work with MATE, since I haven't used it.

Re: Mint 13 LXDE. When?

It was pointed out that other distributions have more activity in their forums. And that may be the leading factor in why no more Linux Mint LXDE. Did anyone ever think to consider that perhaps people having less problems with Linux Mint LXDE is a factor in less posting in the forums? No reason for...

Re: Mint 13 LXDE. When?

I also am sad to hear about the demise of Mint LXDE. I prefer LXDE over all the other DEs, except perhaps Cinnamon (or MATE, I have trouble remembering which is which). I will try installing LXDE over XFCE on my next new install. Or I will switch to Cinnamon (or MATE) I guess. Pity, though, I bave a...

Re: Razor-qt, A Fast Qt Desktop Enviroment

I just found out about razor-qt, on a blog post. I love LXDE, and razor-qt looks a little bit similar. So I want to give it a try. Great to find more info on it in the forum. Thanks. I like the modular DEs, glad to see a new one. And even though I have a new computer, I like the quickness of the sma...

Can't get updates

I do not understand it. Every time I have tried LMDE, I am unable to get updates. The update manager just will not connect to download the packages. Everything else works fine, including Internet. But update manager fails to fetch anything. Crashes as it is downloading package info 29 of 63. Has any...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I voted for LXDE because it has always worked great for me and I like the way it is set up and works. But I am just installing LMDE with MATE/Cinnamon, so I have not tried those yet. They look great in the previews and screen shots.

"Flashback" virus

I've seen a couple reports on this the past few days. Apparently is devastating the 'virus-proof' macs. Here's one of the reports: http://kdvr.com/2012/04/11/damaging-virus-attacks-mac-computers-for-1st-time-ever/ I assume most *nix users would be very careful about clicking on some pop-up claiming ...

Running two HDDs

If I want to run two hard drives, how should I go about the install on the second drive? Main question is where to put grub. I want the first HDD, the one I am already using, to be the main one, but I want the option on start-up to boot to the spare. So should I do a new grub on the new drive, or ha...

Re: New sound card issues

Okay, I'm feeling really stupid (and annoyed) now. When I open alsamixer from the menu, I can see all three audio devices, but I do not see how to select which one to use. My headphones work fine when plugged into the front of the tower, the original headphone jack that came on the computer. They do...

Re: New sound card issues

I'm running Mint 11 on LXDE. The way the menu is set up, a feature I usually love in LXDE, I'm not sure where the sound preferences menu is. I often get a small bass sound from the speakers when shutting down or starting up the computer, and my headphones, plugged into the computer tower, not the spe...

New sound card issues

I think I may need drivers for this sound card, or maybe some piece of software to run it. I just got an Encore ENM232-8VIA sound card to run my Logitech X-530 speaker system. I know it is more sound card then I need for the speakers, but my trusted computer store does not sell any less. I have the ...

I'm not finding the unpacked files. I still have just the .kgb file. Is there a folder it unpakcs to?

I am feeling kind of dumb right now, not figuring this out.
