Re: need to go back to firefox 5.0 (SOLVED)

I am usually not afraid of the CL, but I do try to avoid it. This just required an awful lot of editing for the current version, since it was written for 3.0.5. I got it done.

Now I just have to unclick any updates that want to go to FF6, because I do not want to put up with that again.

Re: need to go back to firefox 5.0

Sorry, I'm not sure how to translate all of that into going back from FF6 to FF5.

My desktop has now upgraded to FF6, and I cannot stand it.

Any simple way to get back to FF5?

Thanks for all help.

need to go back to firefox 5.0 (NOT SOLVED)

My laptop, running Mint 9 LXDE, updated to Firefox 6. My desktop, on the same OS, same flavor, did not make that update. Firefox 6 keeps giving me the error message: Firefox already running... You get the point, I think. It happens every time I resume from a suspend, which my laptop does when I clos...

Re: Firefox 5 bookmarks problem

Thank you, wayne128. Was able to import my bookmarks in html. I still find it odd, because I have never had trouble with the .json files, and in fact used them to resotre my bookmarks in KDE and xfce this morning, and then used that to create the html file. Also have never had my bookmarks just disa...

(SOLVED) Firefox 5 bookmarks problem

I installed Firefox 5 the other day, on my Mint 9 LXDE partition, and everything went fine. It imported all of my settings and most of my add-ons (there were a couple that I had to replace because they were no longer compatible). It also imported all of my bookmarks. Then this morning when I turned ...

Re: Getting Firefox 5

I have been thinking about upgrading Firefox, as well. I am on Mint 9 (waiting for the next LTS before I upgrade). I just found out that Firefox 5 is out, last I heard Firefox 4 was just being released a few months ago. The thing that has kept me from upgrading is that I read that Firefox 4 did not ...

Re: PDF viewer

Thank you AT. I have been wanting a PDF viewer that will string the pages together, like Adobe will, instead of going one page at a time. Then I noticed that the default program in Gnome, Evince, will do it the way I prefer. But did not know the name of the program. I should have put more info about...

Re: Problem with Package Manager

Thank you richyrich. That worked perfectly.

How do people know commands like this? I have been on Linux for over two years and there is SO much that I do not know. And I am starting a business to help people learn Linux.

Problem with Package Manager [no longer solved]

When I try to open Synaptic on my Mint 9 LXDE install on my desktop computer (details below), it opens and then immediately crashes. It has been doing this for awhile. It works fine on my laptop with the same OS (I will post the inxi for my laptop in an edit tomorrow). The package manager used to wo...

PDF viewer

I like the default PDF viewer (uses Document Viewer) in the main Mint 9. I would like to add that program to my LXDE install because I do not like the way the PDF viewer in that one works. Does anyone know the name of the document viewer program in the Gnome edition in the package manager? When I se...

Re: Another attempt to stop Linux installations?

Well, now I know not to buy HP. Too bad, I always heard they were a decent company. I already hated Dell. My mom bought a Dell several years ago and it did not come as it was ordered, ie had a CD-ROM drive instead of a DVD writer as requested. Also had a corrupt XP install, and I think the motherboa...

Re: Hello - I'm a newbiee!

1. It is true that Windows games will not run on Linux, though WINE is an option, as is PlayOnLinux. I do not know how well it works, since I do not use it. The couple of games I tried did not work well. My sister was unable to get her WOW to work, so she runs it on a different computer. 2. I would ...

Launchers on the task bar

I would like to put application launchers, specifically Firefox and email (probably Thunderbird) on the task bar in Gnome. I know how to do it in LXDE, where it is actually difficult to put launchers on the desktop. And I know how to get launchers on the desktop in Gnome. But I am having trouble wit...

Re: Deleting Files from an external hard drive

I haven't used Thunar in a long time, I am on PCManFM2, but this might work on Thunar, too. In the Edit drop down menu at the top of the file manager, I scrolled down and clicked on Preferences, which is in the Options menu in some programs, and under General Options there was a place to uncheck "Mo...

Re: Just got four computers to refurb and sell

These machines will all have 512MB of DDR RAM. I know that is little, and old, RAM, but that is what they have. The rest of the hardware is pretty good (I can post that later, if need be, after I boot them up). I will definitely be putting Mint 9 on them, because that is what I use, and I think it b...

Just got four computers to refurb and sell

I am going to install Mint 9 (the LTS release) and sell them. They are decent machines, just in old casing. I will probably be selling them to people who have never, or rarely, used Linux, so I need them to be easy to use. This is a business decision for me. So I want to know which Mint flavor peopl...

Re: What is the difference between Debian, Fluxbox, XFCE, ..

I love this thread. Once again, great job explaining it all Robin. I run Mint 9 LXDE as my main OS (will switch to 13 when it hits, as I like to stay with LTS releases and recommend them to newbs). But I have six OSes on my machine, five Mint 9s, Gnome, KDE, xfce, LXDE, LMDE, and then PeppermintOS 2...

Re: Libre Office problem

I find that depending on where I have a document, OS partition, /home partition, or my external hard drive, I sometimes have to right-click on it and choose open with LibreOffice. You might see if that will work for you.

Other than that, I have no suggestions.

Re: Problem with updates

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try to find time to boot into LMDE today and try those out. Sounds like the CLI should work well. That usually does.

I just hope all those updates do not move LMDE to the top of my boot menu. I hate having to reconfigure Grub.

Problem with updates

I installed LMDE yesterday. I have no experience with the Debian base, all my other OSes are 'buntu based.

Update manager tells me there are 1033 updates, but it will not install them. Says to fix broken packages first. Synaptic finds no broken packages.

How do I fix this?

Thanks.
