Re: Installed xfce4 on Mint 10, wallpaper problem

Did you install xfce4-goodies with that desktop? There are also some other things relevant that you might want in Synaptic Package Manager. Just search for xfce.

Re: How to make each package upgrade to save it first

Thank you very much for your help. Is there guarantee those packages will be kept (until explicit clean)? In conditions like (example) running out of disk space. I am asking this because for rollback purpose this is essential difference, that package is probably kept <-- and --> is kept for sure 10...

Re: screen saver kills Xfce-Have to reboot

I think the problem may be when the computer goes into "sleep" mode, if there is such a thing. I can recover from a screen saver going dark, if I'm there when it does it and can catch it just as it happens. The problem seems to be when I leave for a while (not sure at this point how long it takes t...

Re: screen saver kills Xfce-Have to reboot

I've just installed Mint Xfce. When the screen saver goes into action, I can't get it to "wake'" either by moving the mouse or hitting the space bar. When I went to the "Screen saver" in "Accessories," it's got a bunch of wavy lines, and doesn't seem to work. The only way I can get the system back ...

Re: Fatsest Desktop Environment for LMDE....

Hi Bob, I am thinking of trying XFCE. How can I download XFCE x86_64 as mentioned by you? If you already have LMDE installed you just need to open Synaptic Package Manager and put xfce in the search. I checked the following, your tastes may vary but these needed: xfce4 xfce4-goodies Along with that...

Re: Unable to auto play audio CDs with VLC

My VLC works fine with the fixes provided here. We are talking about VLC in LMDE x86_64? I just added the XFCE desktop, but it is still basically Gnome, nothing in Gnome has been removed.

Re: Unable to auto play audio CDs with VLC

Robert, My first post wasn't as clear as it should have been. My apologies. If your using gnome, your using the gnome virtual file system. Look for the folder .gvfs in your home directory. This is a lot like mounting a network share in gnome and trying to browse it in vlc or other non-gnome program...

Elive has a horridly old build of E. You would be better off building it yourself from source.

Wally will work but it includes part of KDE in dependencies. It's in synaptics.

Re: Fatsest Desktop Environment for LMDE....

Thanks for the input on XFCE Oscar.... Did you keep Gnome or delete? If keep, I am assuming you just choose which you want at login? It's Bob, not Oscar, Oscar is our Moderator. I kept Gnome, because when you start removing one system you effect what ever else is there. In Linux there are so many d...

Re: Fatsest Desktop Environment for LMDE....

Same computer and LMDE with XFCE, runs super fast and no problems you cannot solve. When you install XFCE Desktop make sure to include XFCE Goodies and anything else there in Synaptic you find interesting. I had to install Gnome Alsamixer to get the best sound. The rest you can find on Linux Mint Fo...

Robert, your not understanding me. Please read my first post. I understand how get vlc to open a drive. This issue is gvfs and passing this mount to non aware gvfs programs. Sorry, don't use virtual file system. Wouldn't know where to begin, and you did not mention that in the first Post. I answere...

Re: VLC and the screensaver on LMDE

@bobcollard: I would not use both. That would result in many instances of gnome-screensaver-command being launched. Use only the .xsessionrc method. I have edited my previous post to avoid confusion. @assymetre: The issue here is that gnome-screensaver has changed its API. The method that vlc uses ...
