Re: LMDE latest release a black eye?

I've said my part in defending Mint and the crew who put LMDE together. It would seem to me that people like me who have tried to install Debian, as it is now, understand the effort that has been put into LMDE. They cut things from Five DVDs down to one. The installer alone was a major accomplishmen...

Re: No output from speakers when connected to rear jack

Would this be a headphone type jack or RCA jacks on your Sound card?

Re: Unable to auto play audio CDs with VLC

Well, mine looks a little different (see screenshot) but you should be able to work with that, what do you get when you click on Custom? You could use the same command that mine has.

Re: VLC and the screensaver on LMDE

A simpler workaround is to inhibit gnome screensaver when vlc is playing. Add this line to your ~/.bashrc file: alias vlc='gnome-screensaver-command -i -n vlc -r "playing video" & vlc' Adapted from http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=76977&p=255844&hilit=gnome+screensaver#p255844 EDIT: E...

Open Menu>Settings>Removable Drives and Media> Multimedia Tab. Find device for it using the "Folder" box at the end of the Line.

Re: How could this have been missed? (with a RC release)

Notty! Everyone are not having problems with this. That is the point some of us are trying to make. Check your md5sum, use the disk checker when you open it live. Burn at speeds of 3x or less. All of these things matter and they are not workarounds. The point pal is lots (LOTS) of folks are having ...

Re: Unsettling buzz upon logout

This did not work for me. The proper fix would be to edit /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults # Play system beeps - especially the one when the greeter is ready /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds false This did work, thanks Yasawas. I had this at the login screen and shutdown too, really annoying but fo...

Re: How could this have been missed? (with a RC release)

Running LMDE w/XFCE Desktop, x86_64, no errors, no problems on a Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop. Have VGA external Monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 2233) Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, added Netgear WG111v3 USB WIFI.
IMHO, everything is perfect.

Could be driver related. Did you just install a new version of Mint? Which version are you running? What graphic card do you have? Too many variables to pin it down just yet.

Re: LMDE 9 iso, upgrading to new packages. Will it break it?

It would seem that most of the Problems are with the i386 version of 2010-12. I haven't read of anyone having problems running the original while upgrading through normal channels. As you can see from my signature, I am running the x86_64 version without problems. I have added the Xfce desktop as a ...

Re: Linux Mint Debian (201012) released!

Well, I tried the original LMDE and had problems with sound and external monitor and too many thing s to list here. Then I kept on reading of the things people have done with it, how sound problems were fixed, and one thing lead to another and I decided to install the LMDE 2010-12 x86_64. WOW, To so...
