Re: Peppermint OS

Okay, i have to use a Mac (A1181) for educational purposes, but i kinda hate the OSX OS. Normally i'd just stick a live CD in and run it from that, maybe even add a partition but i signed an agreement saying that among several other thousand things i wouldn't use unauthorized CDs with it. Essentiall...

Re: MintTouch

I get what you mean, kind of like the NBR but with a different interface. Could be great, but it might work out better as a seperate distribution, focussing on one or two products but offering complete support for them, like Pupeee.

Re: Peppermint OS

How does this compare with Lubuntu? I prefer their choice of default browser though - chromium.

How about...

http://www.osalt.com/

Just came across it, really useful and really well designed.

Also, why isn't distrowatch on there?

Re: Puppy Linux 5.0

I tried Puppy a few months ago, v4.x. It was okay at first, and i can see how it appeals to so many people. But a few hours into my 'escapade' i realized that compared to many other distributions it's incredibly unfriendly. I had no trouble doing anything, but i have to consider how a normal PC user...

Re: Facebook replacement

I'd love for this to work, but i'm not sure why they're focusing so much on funding. Facebook started out as a side project on a university campus, didn't require any money as far as i'm aware. And it's not impossible to switch, social networking has proved this before. I think the last straw for fa...

"Hacking" is simply programming. Odds are we've all done it at some point, you hack the code to your liking.

Re: Is Linux Anarchist?

You focus on Anarcho-Syndicalism, which is a very specific example of modern Socialism, that essentially concentrates on a worker driven state and that the working man currently has little or no power in today's society. I'd say that yes, it does accurately reflect a lot of socialist ideals but to p...

Re: Linux on a 14 year old notebook (Toshiba Satellite 110 C

I'd say Slitaz, i ran it reasonably well on an old PII rig but from that i really wouldn't expect much from it. If you can do without X then Microcore (Tiny Core minus the GUI) is worth a look at a 7MB ISO.

Re: A really fast booting OS: xPUD

I've seen this before, but it seems to be very limited, even when compared with other 'instant on' OS's.

10.04 boots in less than 15 seconds on my, what is not a low-mid end, E2140 machine. Makes you question the necessity of distributions like these really.

Election Night

And nobody is talking about it? To be honest i don't trust that Exit Poll at all, there's no way the Lib Dems have lost seats after how far they've come. Here's me hoping for a hung parliament involving them as long as they make a fairer voting system top of the agenda, as long as the Tory's don't s...

Re: The £10 PC?

That's just it though, i was running Slitaz on an old PII rig with about 180MB RAM and it was fine, ran like you would expect Ubuntu or Mint to on an average computer today. No reason that you couldn't use it for the most common tasks, web browsing, word processing, playing music etc. Since the Geod...
