Re: The £10 PC?

My point was more that there's no reason you couldn't run a fully fledged OS on them... I've been using old PII/PIII era rigs lately and with the right distro they're perfectly usable. There's only 256MB ROM but I could use an external hard drive and it would make excellent SWAP. I'm just saying, fo...

Re: Introducing... me?

Vilkomen!

The Server OS marketshare looks a lot different to the Home PC one... why do people actually trust such critical systems to such unreliable software when Linux/Unix alternatives are often cheaper and a lot more reliable?

Fair enough, you can delete (or move it to wherever the posts go to die) it if you want, to stop it cluttering up Chat. I did get a few people to go however, no thanks to you guys

The £10 PC?

Well i'm on Work Experience at the minute, and one thing i've seen them (IT dept. of the council) use a lot of is TCDs, or Thin Client Devices. For those of you that don't know these are small, low power systems that are designed to be able to connect to a server, where most of the users application...

Re: Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid -- Manual

One thing i will say though is that the software manager is quite good, but not perfect. I hope they don't choose one or the other for Mint 9 and integrate parts of both.

Re: Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid -- Manual

I'm posting from the LiveCD now... it's a lot less than i thought it would be. They haven't really implemented the whole 'rebranding' structure yet and other than the theme i can't tell what's different. Maybe i've just become too accustomed to the brilliant layout and software of Mint, but i'm just...

Re: Could somebody please point me in the direction of...

Okay, sorry for the mix up. Just thought that since it's a pretty generic request that isn't really distro dependant here would be the best place to ask. Thanks.

Could somebody please point me in the direction of...

Well i'm looking for some Linux drivers for a few cards. Creative CT 2959 - ISA ATI Rage Pro 3d - AGP Diamond Stealth 64 DRAM - PCI Thanks. I'm trying to revive an old PII era PC by putting Slitaz on it, having a bit of trouble with sound and graphics hardware support... any one of the two graphics ...

Couldn't they have dropped Mac support? Then you've still got the huge userbase of Windows and the better of the Unix based OS's.

Re: Buy Merlwiz A New Computer

For the CPU, have you considered an Athlon II X4? Not sure about the pricing over there, but they're about the same as the Phenom II X2s where i am. Should blow it away in everything bar gaming, where they're about on par.

Re: Who tests Debian's software?

I know, and i agree. I just don't require the level of stability that Debian offers over any other distro at the moment. Hell, i don't have anything i don't mind loosing, i format the hard drive every few months. But Debian is a great distro... if not pretty specialised. I think they should change t...

Re: Who tests Debian's software?

Isn't that why they have a much longer release cycle than a lot of other distributions? They don't have any more testers than anyone else but they stick with it until they are certain that it's as stable as it's going to be, unlike say Ubuntu.

Slitaz 3.0

It's finally out, looks amazing. 25MB .iso for a distro that could easily compete with the big guns. Just downloading it now.

Isn't this a fake? The actual Commadore company said they had heard nothing about it.
