Trouble Compiling fmod

Well, fmod is a dependency for something else I was trying to compile, so I tried to compile it myself. I found a link for a tutorial for debian: http://wiki.debian.org/FMOD I changed the directories appropriately for Linux Mint, since the filesystem tree structure is slightly different. (Ex. /usr/l...

Re: How to enable backlight brightness controls

Same problem here. It's a bummer too, because this problem keeps my display at 100% brightness all of the time. My battery gets crap time when I'm off the plug because of it.

More help would be appreciated. I've tried everything I could find on the subject, and still nada.

Re: Disable login user name/password[solved]

Wait no, I tested it, and that didn't work. But, what did... 1. Run "Seahorse" (Alt+F2 and then type it in) 2. Right click on the thing that says "Passwords: login", and select "Change Password" from the right click menu. 3. A dialog box will pop up, type in your current password in the "Old Passwor...

Go to "Administration" and then "Users and Groups" on the mint menu, and you can change it from there.

Re: Grandpa Freeman here

I'm 63, and I've been mucking around with PCs since the early 80s. The first computer I used had its own building, back in the mid 60s. Just because you're old, you're not necessarily computer illiterate. Some old farts know more than any of the young "punk kids". Oh, I completely agree with you. A...

Here's Mine:

I combined one of the Ubuntu 10.04 themes with one of the Mint 10 metal icon packs. Slick as a baby's bottom.

Re: Gnome or Unity for Mint 11

@ Robin Ah, maybe when you get a bit older hormones will kick in and save you. LOL I knew a little dude that was 5 foot 2 in highschool, and he looked like he was maybe 10 years old. After the summer of junior year, he grew to 5 foot 10, and looked completely different. (Extreme example, but you get...

Back to Grandpa's original topic: Unless I am sadly mistaken (I was once - I thought I had made a mistake but I was wrong) Pogo games depend more on java than on flash. Try making sure you have Sun Java 6 installed and not Iced Tea. Just open Firefox and type about:plugins in the address field. If ...

Re: Gnome or Unity for Mint 11

Omygoodness, so much fuss over something that hasn't happened! I for one think that Canonical's decision is both bold and brilliant. Look at all the handheld techno-gadgets everyone is using... all with that easy "cute" interface. PCs are giving way to netbooks and palm pilots and ever smaller and ...

6, at least. I don't know if you can count your people's people though. If that's the case, I have no idea.

Re: mistrust!!

Hey, my mother and my sister are both converts. For my mother, it was almost immediate. All she cared about was speed. Faster boot time + No Antivirus software + Firefox opens faster = WIN (for her) My sister was a bit more skeptical at first. She saw me tinkering, and assumed the worst. (like what ...

Re: Grandpa Freeman here

Wow, I didn't know older people were so interested in the open source and free software world! It's bizarre, since most people that didn't grow up with computers like I have, aren't that interested in learning how to use modern technology. You must have amazing perspective! Gosh, even my parents don...

Re: The Document Foundation & LibreOffice -- OpenOffice.Org

Well, perhaps if they make some headway Mint will choose them over Open Office. Who knows? It's promising.

Either way, it's nice to see some competition. (Competition = Inspiration to work harder)

I don't know......

linuxmint.com seems to be down right now. I hope that means either it was released, and the server overloaded, or it is about to be released, and they're preparing it for hell.

Long Term Support?

It's been said that Ubuntu 10.4 will have LTS.
http://www.pahing.com/2009/05/ubuntu-10 ... d-in-2010/

Will Mint do the same when the next version comes out?

It would be great if they did. Upgrading can be a pain.
