Re: Yet another freeze after hibernate problem...

I have never used a Linux computer where Hibernate functions as it is supposed to; always a freeze. I have Linux on all 4 computers at home; no Windows for over 2 years. Why is it that even when a distro is deemed as stable, hibernate options are still open to everyone but have a good chance of free...

Re: Your Top Distributions

In no particular order... - Linux Mint (of course) - Mandriva - Wolvix (my favourite XFCE distro by a longshot) - PCLinuxOS ("Needed" a Windows computer for online course; they sent me a buggy Windows XP machine that had no privelages, so I wiped it and used PCLOS because I wanted a stable RPM deskt...

Re: The Windows 7 Killer?

I don't understand why a big company like Canonical isn't doing their OS as well as Mint (a derivative). I don't like Ubuntu at all anymore. Mint is Ubuntu+extras for me, without the annoyances of Ubuntu. I now recommend Mint over Ubuntu to new users.

Re: what is the best current KDE?

Mandriva 2010 is the cleanest and most KDE-oriented distro I have ever tried. OpenSuSE implements KDE very well, but I dislike OpenSuSE for many reasons (no, not the Microsoft thing).

If you are good with Linux, try Arch or Slackware 13.

Re: The State of KDE (2009 in Review)

"that other, bloated, DE" I used to say that up until I tried Mandriva 2010 which subsequently made me run "apt-get install kubuntu-desktop" out of whim. This whim has lasted 4 nights so far. Dare I say I am not returning to Gnome? My last experience with running KDE on the desktop was 3.5, but it ...

Re: Partition woes since switching to Mint

If that doesn't work try running gparted from the live cd - that won't mount anything unless you tell it to so you should be able to delete the partition from there.
That's what I use :)

But yes, I will give that a try shortly.

Re: Why is Linux a bit slower than windows

I have *always* found Linux to be much faster than Windows XP/Vista, even when hardware is weaker than the Windows comparison. Edit: -o0o- ok this sound interesting, how or what step did you do to create this environment.thats all i need is internet, office, email, nvidia drivers, wireless connectivity...

I might be switching to KDE.

I started using Linux on Gnome, and later tried KDE (3.5) and enjoyed it somewhat. But Kubuntu with 3.5 was a bit... bloated. I abandoned Kubuntu after maybe 3 months of use. I've used Gnome for almost 2 years (KDE 4 was a massive disaster at first) since then, shunning KDE during that time. Over th...

Partition woes since switching to Mint

I used to have Ubuntu on my laptop until I got a 320 GB external drive. This allowed me to totally wipe my hard drive and start fresh. After backing up my home folder I wiped everything off of my hard drive completely, thus leaving an unallocated partition the size of my hard disk. I proceeded to in...

Re: Mint vs OS X

I have a Macbook as well as a HP Laptop running Mint (no other OS). OS X boots up on the Macbook *much* quicker than Mint, and when I click "Shut Down" on OS X it shuts off within 3 seconds. Both computers have the same specs (The HP laptop has a slightly weaker processor). I have been using Linux s...

Re: Wacom Bamboo Tablet

I was using a wacom tablet on Ubuntu 8.10 and CentOS 5.3... everything worked flawlessly as soon as I plugged it in. I just installed Mint 8 over the holidays. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. I hope I do not run into errors :( I'll try it asap. Edit: Works flawlessly. Then again, it is not a Bam...
