Not sure if this would be helpful for you, but I came across this article on PDFs in this week's edition of DistroWatch Weekly.

I had the same issue with my HP laptop, but solved it with this page from the Easy Linux Tips Project (my solution was 1.7 there).

Also, be sure to read other ideas in the Wireless forum here.

Re: Medium in GH50N is not a DVD-DL

Why didn't k3b warn me that I was asking it to do the impossible, as I've been told by other DVD burning software in the past? I think it was trying to do so via the "Medium in GH50N is not a DVD-DL" message. I wouldn't disagree that could have been conveyed in a clearer manner, but you'd have to t...

Re: Medium in GH50N is not a DVD-DL

The DVD player I have is a Sony D350P, and the instruction book I have on my PC shows that it can play DVD+-RW disks(as well as CDs). Yes, and what about dual layer (DL) discs? And to all41's point above, is the session that you're trying to burn over the capacity of a single layer DVD, and therefo...

To me, it appears that k3b is expecting dual layer discs (DVD-DL) in the drive for the job you're intending. Are they?

Re: Should Dell Optiplex FX160 be as SLOW with Mint as with Win 7?

Not to dissuade an inxi output, but in the interim: Dell OptiPlex FX160 specs

After seeing that, I would suggest giving LM 18.3 Xfce (still supported until April 2021) a try.

Re: What to do after impropper shutdown

No I am not getting any errors on boot up as far as I know and when I did a fsck from a Live USB it said file system clean so I guess that means everything is OK? Sounds good to me. If you're really interested in details, I know the GParted Live method that I mentioned earlier allow for you to insp...

What should be done after an Improper Shutdown has accrued,IE the system locked up for some reason and Ctrl Alt Del would not work, or Ctrl Alt F-4 and then typing Shutdown or Reboot at the command line prompt, or the battery on you Laptop died too abruptly before the auto shutdown to activate or c...

I'm pretty sure that recent versions of LM (and many other distros these days) will default to using a swap file if a swap partition isn't present.

What does grep swap /etc/fstab return?

Re: Partition Deletion

I've got almost a Terabyte of data on H:\ and really don't want to lose it. Installation aside, be sure you have a backup of that data, for all the reasons you can't think of. When installing Linux Mint from a bootable flash drive, will the installation wipe ALL partitions (C:\ & H:\) or just the p...

Re: When did you come to Linux?

Apparently I was wrong, CentOS might be an LTS Red Hat fork. CentOS is indeed based on RHEL. Not only that, a few years ago, they partnered with the Red Hat team to collaboratively develop the platform, while staying independent of Red Hat itself. EDIT: CentOS Project joins forces with Red Hat Joe

Code: Select all

It's working. That particular sandbox session is parent pid number 6221, via your username, with firefox running. :)

Agreed. I think they had it on mainframes since the late 90s. And I remember that Linux "prodigy" ad they ran on TV in the early 2000s. :)

IBM and Canonical work together in financial services

Just because IBM owns Red Hat doesn't mean it's not working with other Linux powers such as Ubuntu Linux.

Or secondly could it be an update fault in the software referring to screen rendering? Does this behavior exhibit it...

When i enter any accounts and try to use a drop down box menu to make a selection for payment it does not work at all. It refuses to move. Without knowing what menus you're referring to, could they be JavaScript components, and if so, could you be using a JavaScript blocking extension (or have othe...
