Re: Helena has just a few screensavers?

I was quite shocked to see so few screensavers. Wonder why it was decided to eliminate so many.

Don't know if this helps, but...http://deb.opera.com/

EDIT: Nevermind. Adding the Sid opera beta repo changes nothing, qt3 is all that appears.

Re: How I know which mint version I use?

I did inxi -h to get the full explanation. I copied it to a text file and saved it. Very handy to use. Thanks for posting it, lagagnon!

Mint-specific apps - don't say "mint"

Running Helena, final.

I'm wondering why the Mint-specific apps, or "tools" do not say "Mint". I've seen screenshots of MintUpdate and MintInstall, yet mine says "update manager " and "software manager". Why would this be?

Re: Congrats on the new release!

Yep. Nice and quick here as well. Fantastic experience thus far. Though I did a clean install. I don't do updates. Clean installs reduce the possibility of any problems.

Re: viruses?!?

Good read on Linux Malware . From the Wikipedia page: The Linux operating system, Unix and other Unix-like computer operating systems are generally regarded as well-protected, though not immune, from computer viruses, compared to Microsoft Windows. There has not yet been a single widespread Linux ma...

Re: Question about the difference between editions

The Linux kernel includes full PAE mode support starting with version 2.3.23, enabling access of up to 64 GiB of memory on 32-bit machines. A PAE-enabled Linux-kernel requires that the CPU also support PAE. As of 2009, many common Linux distributions are beginning to use a PAE-enabled kernel as the...

Re: Question about the difference between editions

I'm running 32 bit Mint 8 non-universal on a 64 bit system, rock solid. I've tried bot 32 and 64 bit Ubuntu Karmic. 32 bit was/is more stable, less issues with flash, compiz and so forth. And with the pae kernel, you lose nearly no memory detection.

Re: Mint 8 stable release available

No codecs were installed when I tried that one. There is a one click install in the menu that makes it identical with the main edition as far as codecs are concerned. I tested this and it works flawlessly. Excellent. Very happy it works. And from the official release announcement page, here's the d...

Re: Mint 8 stable release available

I mean't on the "8", which, the Universal or the other one? Anyways, i think it's the other one. Download froze twice after about 200-300MB so i guess i will have to be patient and download later. It says on page 17 of the user guide, Also make sure to assign “/” for its mount point and to select “...

Re: Keep Gimp in Mint 9!

I am fully aware of mobile broadband capabilities and other countries where usage is capped. I have no issues at all with Live CD's. Love 'em, in fact. But some distros have a live/install CD as well as an install DVD available for download. I know Fedora does, I believe openSUSE does. My point was ...
