Re: Problems running LM17 64 bit Mate from LiveDVD

@ClutchDisc...Good to hear. I will wait for more reports on 64 bit OS, and then may try the LiveUSB route.

Thanks,
Bob

Problems running LM17 64 bit Mate from LiveDVD Part Solved

Downloaded LM 17 64 bit Mate today..md5sum matched...burned the dvd at lowest available speed with xfburn...booted the dvd; attempted to run in "livecd" mode. Got a blank "white rectangle" box, and even though I waited about 5 minutes; nothing more. Did a hard shutdown, and restarted with a cold boo...

Re: Network manager applet icon comes and goes

The fix seems to have worked over several shutdown/reboots. Just to make sure, I did a reinstall on all the installed "network-manager" files in synaptic. I still think that I have short-circuited network-manager's methods of doing things, but no matter, as long as it works. I will now try to mark t...

Re: A 6MB mint-flashplugin update?

Does the previous post mean that whenever we get a security flash update, we also get a version update from Adobe? I hope so, but please clarify, as I have always wondered how far we will get behind in versions, before flash becomes unusable as more and more websites demand a higher version. Best re...

Re: Network manager applet icon comes and goes

Update: I think I have it fixed, or at least worked-around. I removed the entries from rc.local, and then from the menu selected Preferences --> Startup Applications. Clicked Add, and in the command window, typed nm-applet & and named it Network-Manager applet. Saved, and rebooted. And it works. For...

Re: Network manager applet icon comes and goes

I added nm-applet & to etc/rc.local and rebooted. That did not work...ie no icon. I wondered if it needed a delay, so instead I added (sleep 1 && nm-applet) & and rebooted. That also did not work. I know that network-manager does things it's own way. Not sure where to go from here. I've googled hund...

Re: Network manager applet icon comes and goes

No, the icon does not persist on reboot. Now I am out of my depth; I did not change anything is the rc files. The only thing I can think of is that there was an update to bluetooth recently. I guess the question is: How does network-manager and it's applet get started in a persistent way on boot? Th...

Re: LM13 12.04.4?

Certainly; linux is all about choice. That said, I believe the discussion is about an OFFICAL Mint 13 respin. Not many want to take a chance on some other. Perhaps you might like to comment on the utility of an offical respin for MOST Mint users?

Re: Network manager applet icon comes and goes

Fiddled arount some more with this today. Might have found a simple fix: In User terminal I ran nm-applet & instead of just nm-applet. Icon stays on the panel notification area now. Will reboot later to see if it stays fixed. If so after a few days, I will mark this as SOLVED. Now I have to learn wh...

Re: LM13 12.04.4?

administrollaattori aside; The question still is a valid point for discussion: Will Linux Mint 13 CD images be updated to the latest 12.04.4 revision? All other considerations aside, the size of the initial update after the install is much larger than the install itself. For me, that is a deal break...

Network manager applet icon comes and goes (SOLVED)

The icon disappeared from the notification area in the panel this evening. The pulseaudio speaker icon is still there. When I restart the applet in the User terminal, it appears for a few seconds, and then disappears again. It will vanish Immediately if I Control C to regain the command line. The fo...

Re: Crash in firefox and problems with brasero

WRT brassero; it has had problems for more than 5 years, more likely closer to 10 years. Why it is default in many linux distros is puzzling. I sometime suspect that it has something to do with gnome devs (stubborness?), but that is only my guess. It has often made coasters out of cds/dvds for me......

Re: Downgrading to Firefox 25

As promisted, a quick update. I did clone the install, and experimented with java. No luck. Ended up with Firefox 25.01 and Icedtea. Pinned Firefox in Synaptic and Apt; done fritzing about for a while... lol
BTW, I reinstalled firefox 25.01 from the cached .deb using Gdebi.

Re: Downgrading to Firefox 25

Just to report the resolution of this problem (see my post in "java7" yesterday. I successfully force-downgraded from firefox 26 to firefox 25.01 with pkkg from the local apt cache. However, using Java 7 direct from Oracle, and using Java 7 from the repo, both failed to access the camera via mydlink...

Re: Beware of Tutorials.

I will not argue that backup before upgrade could be problematic, as I have always done a clean install after saving the files from my /home partition. That said, perhaps using a hard disk backup utility like Clonezilla, might be a better option. That way, if your upgrade goes south, you could resto...

Re: Where is mint 13's .bashrc file?

Hi zenopeek, I did do more reading/homework on PYTHONPATH et al, and was also able to append the HOME/bin path. #added for gnuradio export PYTHONPATH=/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/grc_gnuradio/:$HOME/bin It worked, and now gnuradio (and multimode) play nicely. The only problem left is that ...

Re: Where is mint 13's .bashrc file?

Thank you zenopeek; Most of the bash init information/docs seemed to be attributed to OS such as fedora and debian; hence I went looking for .bashrc. Now I know that mint does some things in slightly different ways compared to the other OS's, and rather than screw things up (as I have done many time...

Where is mint 13's .bashrc file?

I have installed gnuradio, and it instructs me as such: To run the examples you may need to set PYTHONPATH. Note that the prefix and python version number in the path needs to match your installed version of python. $ export PYTHONPATH=/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages You may want to add this ...

Re: Information: Mint 13 Mate 64 bit zram0 error on boot

Further information: Yesterday (Nov 29th) I installed kernel 3.2.0-54, and the zram0 error is still showing up on boot. I have had a look at the kernel dev list, and they think they have it fixed (in some 3.10 version of the kernel). I have rolled back (again) to the 3.2.0-52 version, and all is sti...
