Re: Odd data burst and screen flicker on boot

Yes, I think I will try that, although a couple of short flashes of light on the lan cable connection does not yeild a whole lot of information. I might have to set etherape to start on boot, or else get out my old linksys router and set up logging on that. I just have to get off my lazy old butt. T...

Odd data burst and screen flicker on boot

An odd thing has started happening about 2 or 3 weeks ago. When I cold boot, everything seems normal; the desktop (mint 13 mate 64 bit) icons come up, and the mouse is active. This is when it gets strange: If I mouse over any icon (not clicking it), the screen blanks for about a half second, then co...

Re: Software Manager vs Synaptic Package Manager

I also do like synaptic better than software manager (It seemed to break often, over the years). However, I did go one step further; replacing the mint synaptic with the ubuntu version, and then locking that version. This gave me the ability to updates, rather than just install/uninstall. I also did...

Information: Mint 13 Mate 64 bit zram0 error on boot

I updated the kernel from 3.2.0-52-generic yesterday (Sept 7) to 3.2.0-53-generic. The new kernel generated a buffer i/0 error wrt zram0. Google reported this is a kernel bug and is being investigated. I reverted back to 3.2.0-52-generic, and the boot error is gone. Since I do not know what effect t...

Re: Netflix-desktop...One success and One failure

Update: rather than fiddle with her laptop, and perhaps break it; I first uninstalled/purged "netflix-desktop", and its config files from my own laptop. I then enabled the pipelight ppa and its gpg key. Ran synaptic, update, and then installed "pipelight. It appeared to install okay, and then starte...

Re: Netflix-desktop...One success and One failure

Adelante, I had used apt-get to install netflix-desktop, and it installed with no errors. Unfortunately, it would not run without the "user_xattr" error. I have uninstalled and purged it now. I will add the lightpipe ppa repo and signing key and try by installing "lightpipe" rather than the "netflix...

Re: Wrong repo showing in Mint 14

This is just a shot in the dark, but I think I read that Mint 14/15? has its sources in some dir/file name ending in a d, rather than in "sources.list"?? I cannot check this, as I am still on Mint 13.

GNUCAP and NGspice are in the repos. I have used spice (albeit a long time ago).

Netflix-desktop...One success and One failure

Hi, I installed the netflix desktop from this link: http://www.iheartubuntu.com/2012/11/ppa-for-netflix-desktop-app.html following the instructions exactly. I DID NOT have to add the "user_xattr" switch to the fstab file to make it work. My kernel is 3.2.0-52 generic on at 64 bit amd processor, with...

Re: Linux Mint 15 on Optimus - Bumblebee works NVIDIA/Intel

For what it is worth: I tried to install Nvidia 310 in fedora 19 64 bit kernel 3.9 with an Nvidia Go 7150M/ Optimus 630M (which the nvidia site claims are the same, and also claims that Nvidia version 310 was the driver to use. Contrary-wise, the install errored out saying that version 304 was the l...

Re: text Select blackout in Abiword

Further to this: I enabled the Quantel repo last night, and installed that version (still 2.9.2) and the bug is still there, even though it was reported as fixed in Quantel. I guess that means there is little hope that a fix will trickle down to Mint 13. :( I post this so that those interested can s...

Re: text Select blackout in Abiword

I know this is an old thread (mine), but for what it is worth, apparently this is indeed a bug and is fixed in the next version of abiword: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=20620 Posted so that users will not waste time trying to fix this. So when we get an update to 2.9.3, it ...

Re: Locked photo

Using the file browser, browse to the folder containing the file..right click and choose Open as Administrator..select/right click the file...choose Properties, then the Permissions tab. You can then change the permissions to suit yourself. It is likely now set to Root permissions.

Re: Select, Copy, and Paste Text from a PDF as Editable Text

If not installed, install Atril (also known as Evince or Document Viewer). Set it as default. The only downside is that seclected text is "backed out" instead of highlighted. I find the same problem in Abiword. (BTW, Abiword will also read and select/copy text, it is much bigger/slower program.) Atr...

Re: Problems with flash Mint 13 xfce

I had this same problem (regarding flash) on my older amd desktop. I don't recall the details, but the problem ended up that the last few version of flash required a processor operand that was not available in the older processors. I banged my head against the wall for almost 6 months, before I foun...

Re: GREAT LITTLE RADIO PLAYER: SIMPLISTIC INTERNET RADIO PLA

Tried RadioTray yesterday. It installed and worked right off. However, after playing with it for about 20 mins, and changing between a few stations, it hung. I had to kill the process. I then uninstalled it. Too bad, it was a nice unobtrusive player. I will try it again in a few months. Regards, Bob

Re: banshee plays beethoven movements in the wrong order

This might be related: I download audio books from librvox.org, and they show up in the file browser in the right order (by number sequence). However, when I copy the audio files to the mp3 player, they play out of sequence UNLESS I rename them in alphbetical order. I suspect this may be related to ...

Re: Linux Mint 14, Tor Browser Not Working or Loading

I got this same problem with a fresh net install of Debian Wheezy 64 bit (new stable). If I download and install the 386 version, it works fine. I have a suspicion that it is a library problem, possibly associated with the new dual multiarch business. I did not persue the issue, but choose to wait f...

Re: host file block site not working

update: I set up the firewall in the dlink router to block the ip address of that url plus a few others: 82.103.140.40, (no script) 50.63.243.230; and 184.72.115.86 and 184.72.106.52.
