Re: How to: Automatically Run a Script on Double-click???

Simply drag the script into an open terminal and press enter - not quite what you asked for but very easy to do.

Re: How can I make my current install into live usb ?

The link in my post will take you to the correct web page. The Refracta tools .deb download will give you an installer which will enable you to install your running system to a prepared partition (a partition on a USB) and a tool to make an .iso snapshot of your running system which is a very useful...

Re: How can I make my current install into live usb ?

Refracta tools will also achieve this for a straight debian os - not
tried this on mint, but I suspect it would work.

Re: A RAM-Based Mint?

It can be done using Refracta tools

http://www.ibiblio.org/refracta/

Run the refracta snapshot to create an .iso, burn this to dvd or usb, and the boot menu will have an option to boot to ram.
I would suggest a simple install to keep the .iso size down and use symlinks to save files to disk.

Re: Image Entire Hard Disk - How?

Have a look at Clonezilla and Redobackup. They will both image a whole disk.

Re: Sensible backups - how do you make them?

It is just my own workstation being backed up. I have learnt the hard way and feel it is impossible to backup too much. So many threads ask for help in turning the system backwards which is almost impossible without backups. I suggest you have a look at backintime which is easily available, uses GUI...

Re: Sensible backups - how do you make them?

I use "backintime" for hourly file backups.

Then once or twice during the week I backup the whole running system using tar.gz.

Finally, weekly, I use Clonezilla for an image backup.

Some may consider this over the top, but, better safe than sorry!

Re: The ultimate dream Cinnamon roadmap for Linux Mint 17

It fills me with fear - as mentioned 3D is bloat and IMO unecessary for a productive desktop.

Re: How to snapshot easily from a gui and how to rollback

Install grub-imageboot,
create folder /boot/images,
add Clonezilla .iso to folder /boot/images,
update-grub.

Clonezilla should now show on the grub menu and boot. This software will allow you to image and restore your system from grub, as requested.

Re: clonezilla image - is it okay?

Clonezilla compresses the image. Also there is an option within CZ to check the image.

Re: GUI is not running after update

For backup have a look at Clonezilla and Redobackup (which is probably the easiest to use). Links are below.

Re: How to clonezilla to smaller disk ??

Clonezilla have their own forum - the link is below. I would ask there.

http://sourceforge.net/p/clonezilla/discussion/

Alternatively, qt4-fsarchiver would do this for you. Again the link is shown below.
