Re: Can't play commercial DVD's

I'm afraid it still gives me the same error, can't open /dev/cdrom. When I click the dropdown, there isn't any drive listed. I tried to manually mount the drive last night, but it doesn't seem to have had any effect. it could be that disk gets mounted somewhere else. For example a music CD on my ma...

Re: How to read CD with Windows - only file systems?

Hello guys, sorry got something to do yesterday. Anyway, back to the question, there are several DVDs that cannot read in Linux Mint, but all of it was Data DVD where I put all the data files in it, like programs, musics, even videos for playback on my computer. I checked the filesystem of the DVD ...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?

IWhat you all know and not many are saying is that there is a large amount of Windows lovers out there but mostly because they are running pirated versions of Windows. If they were to pay for all that I believe that the numbers would be allot smaller. Secondly, most of the Windows applications and ...

Re: Why are my applications not the latest possible version?

repositories are safe. however to me this is still wrong way. the new version of applicaitons should be offered on updates. ok Ubuntu has upgrade, but that upgrades the whole OS not just the apps. why should it be offered? well for one thing they often have bug fixes and new important features and s...

I htink Zentyal has a package that can be installed. It's in Ubuntu repositories i think. though not NAS, it is a GUI based, user friendly small business server.

it's a freeBSD based distro, so not even a linux distro. it's a totally different operating system.

Re: KISS. Total newbie &

I have everything (all Apps/Programs/Kernels) with my Mint-9 updated to it's latest. so basically you have updated the whole system to latest mint except for the desktop. But it is true Mint 9 is still very modern. and applicaitons can be upgraded if necessary as well as drivers. However ne...

Re: Lisa CD/DVD on a 4GB pendrive?

4 GB is enough to run the OS live.

it should also be enough to install the OS on it but you would be a bit limited there with space.

Compiz is for Gnome as i know. KDE has it's own manager. I believe it's kwin or something like that. it should be already installed. : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KWin

also Mandriva Linux Powerpack 2011 (though i am not sure what else they offer in the pack besides the proprietary software). Most linuxes you can pay for support and install which is feasible if you plan to deploy on larger scale. they will "touch it up" specially for you. Also if oyu want to see ho...

Clem is paid, but that's not the point. the point is that they published some info on it. it will be based on Ubuntu and they want to get it out before x-mas. ■Work on the KDE and LXDE editions started. The Linux Mint staff was increased to 3 full-time members this December in an effort to bring alt...

Re: Is linux harmful for laptop battery?

I am convinced that these will remain somewhat marginalised, hobby-ist OS’s, even Linux Mint, until transparency rules. My sister is a PhD, but she will never use the linux terminal, and there is no way to escape the need for the terminal for the foreseeable future, in any flavor of linux. seriousl...

Re: Linux For Netbook Computers

Best to try out several live distros first before installing one. I've got 3 netbooks and my own conclusion is to go light but get as many features as possible. Lubuntu runs excellent on a netbook. Mint 12 works well on a netbook, but the Debian based Mint seems faster to me. I don't recommend the ...
