Re: repost:help with hp g6 1b60(solved)

OpenSUSE is known as good KDE distro (they say KDE done right) so you might try KDE there instead of forcing Gnome at all cost. Gnome3 is new and bound to have issues. While KDE4 solved plenty fo them already. KDE is more like windows in the look&feel as well as the way it handles the settings (for ...

Re: Linux-made PDF Files in Windows

If fonts are embeded it should solve the reading problem. Ofcourse it makes files larger.

however you should know that sometimes people can't read/open even files that were sent from windows to windows (i am just having another one of these). they might be using outdated software to read it.

Re: Is linux harmful for laptop battery?

i am now kind of disapointed as we didnt' really use the baterry much or laptop at all (not many recharges). and it's already dead. The best way to conserve a LiIon/LiPo battery is to charge up to ~70% full, wrap it in foil together with a packet of silica gel and put it into the fridge (above 0 °C...

Re: No Google...is a no no

google supports it's servers and makes money through adds. it keeps it free for normal users. In order to give me ads that might interest me and reduce the numbers of those i have no interest in it needs to collect some of my data. i have no problem with that as long as the collected date doesn't in...

Re: WHY MOST of my MUSIC PLAYERS DON'T PLAY CD's????

Well i am using KDE and i can't play any AudioCD unless i do it via command line. I even updated the KDE to see it in Dolphin and i can see the CD in file managers, but it won't play. I even installed latest Amarok. Nothing plays them. so i ended up ripping them to mp3 and then playing them. lame, a...

Re: New to Mint, first step laptop!

Dells come preinstalled with Ubuntu Linux (so they shoudl work with mint too). but not all you would need to know the model. Some HP's come with SUSE Linux preinstalled. They will probably work with Mint too. Graphics cards are probelmatic, but if you see laptop with preisntalled linux you knwo that...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

problem with these upgrades is there've been some major changes in KDE. as someone noted Kmail has issue - well yes and no. it has issues if you try to move to new version, but if you just start with new version it should be ok. i dont' use Kmail or Konqueror but Mozilla and Thunderbird. So didnt' s...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

Two things - perhaps Boo and Kendal need help - perhaps switching to DE base is not really such a good idea. as mentioned it is fun to fiddle with the OS itself for some while most others just want some stable OS to use for their applications/programmes. I am using windowsXP on main mashcine and it'...

Re: KDE 10 INSTALL NOT MINTY

it's probably dispalaying the gnome version of the firefox. using gnome libraries.

check in the settings to see how gnome applications are set for display. they are probably not using the correct display option.

also the other theme is not Mint theme it's standard KDE theme.

Re: Mint 11 KDE development

Well older programmes are not an issue if their bugs are getting patched. if not, then they are indeed useless. Updates that break the OS are not good for sponsors/business environment. imagine having a bit larger system - loosing a whole day while you troubleshoot and try to solve th eissue can cos...

Re: The type of questions asked here seems troubling

In linux you can easilly add partitions later.

so the easiest method is to just leave/create empty disk space and let the installer automaticly format and partition it. you can always add home partition (for data) later if needed.

Re: Mint 11 KDE development

I am currently using Debian Stable (64 bit and Xfce) with backports and I am very satisfied with it. The problem with Testing is that at the beginning of the production cycle (right now) it can occasionally break (towards the end it tends to be rock-solid, though). This is not a huge issue for the ...
