Any way to test it without the DVD or USB option

I was thinking of installing Mint debian XFCE to replace Ubuntu 10.04 as it would use less RAM (only 224 MB is available). I plan to lock it to debain stable. But is there any way to try it out? The computer can't boot from a DVD medium (though it has a DVD player). I also can't boot from USB (thoug...

Re: 1280x1024 Monitor Resolution

Strange that Windows is perfectly happy with my graphics card ? It's not strange, because for windows the manufacturer (AMD) provided their graphics card drivers. while for linux, the drivers had to be reverse engineered by community after the original ones were "locked" and abandoned by AMD. I can...

Re: nine ten elven

it's not just tinkering issue but also new versions of OS will have newer kernel and since in linux drivers are often part of kernel they will also have newer drivers. usually. for example 10.04 LTS was what i wanted, however my sound wasn't working after i instlled it. i guess the chip is a bit new...

Re: What about Mint 9 over 10?

Mint 10 KDE had a few issues for some with the 4.6.0 version. However 4.6.2 has cleaned up the issues and 4.6.3 will be out soon. i upgraded Kubuntu 10.10 (which comes with KDE 4.5) to 4.6 which is now at 4.6.2. anmd i can confirm that plenty of issues have been resolved with 4.6.2 update. A Mint live system doesn't load everything into RAM you're thinking of puppy. If Mint loaded everything into RAM you'd be able to remove the Live CD/DVD/USB after you booted without the system locking up. In puppy you can. are you saying you can boot up the system with only CD driver and no hard di...

Not having an optical drive to re-install and not even a thumb drive to install Mint off. Re: Mint 11 KDE development

I too read quite a few threads with nVidia problems (Crashes and such) on Ubuntu 11.04 and it seems the problems with nvidia are also present in KDE version of the OS. However it also seems that not all nvidia cards have issues. well that is from the posts i've read and i read quite a few. I am usin...
