Re: How to make LMDE stable AFTER squeeze goes stable

LMDE will stay in the Debain testing repo and won't follow Squeeze (which is now testing but is rumored to go to stable before the end of the year) Don't let the name testing fool you, Debain testing is more stable that many main stream distros. There is no dought in my mind that Clem knows what he ...

Re: "Live" USB drive

Changing the startup sequence is a function of the BIOS not the LiveUSB stick. You should be able to go into the BIOS and set the boot sequence one time setting it to USB CD Drive HD In most cases F10 will save the changes. Now when you boot it will look for a bootable USB, then a CD, & then the HD ...

Re: Mint vs ubuntu & newbie

Welcome to Mint Larry, I too have been around since DOS, Win 3.1, OS/2 and others. When I retired 4 years ago I decided I had had enough of Windows and switch to Linux. Was and am somewhat a Distro hopper always come back to Mint now Mint Debian. When burning Mint CDs make sure you burn them at the ...

Re: Sound issue

In many cases the volume control is turned down or muted. I normally install gmixer and use it to adjust everything. Case inpoint I installed LMDE on my Gateway netbook and when playing videos I had no sound. Upon checking in gmixer the master vloume was turned way down. This is different that the v...

Re: Which laptop should I buy? (Dells vs Toshibas)

recently I have been looking at a Toshiba Satellite L655-5105 while scouting around in Toshiba Support I was looking at BIOS updates and many times when you purchase a laptop or computer for that matter the BIOS is out of date. The Toshiba BIOS and be installed from a floppy (who has those any more)...

Re: Is Mint Debian stable?

I have been running LMDE since it 1st came out. I'm using it on my Dell laptop and Gateway netbook and it has worked perferctly on both systems. In the past I have ran Lenny, Squeeze & Sid and to be honest any trouble I had was brought on by myself, by dorking around trying different things. Some wa...

Re: Help with WMP54gs WIFI card please...

A little bit more explanation. I'm able to see 2-3 bars of my wifi network on the menu bar icon. I setup the network to use WPA2 Personal TKIP+AES. I was able to configure my laptop (Win7 Dell Studio 15) to log in. I'm still having troubles with the desktop (Linux Mint). Like I said above, I can se...

Re: Which laptop should I buy? (Dells vs Toshibas)

I have 2 Dells and a Gateway (Acer) netbook. One Dell is Latitude & has the Intel wifi the other is a Vostro & has the Broadcom 4312 (Dell 1397) The Latitude if by far the better of the 2 Dells but there is also a large price difference. They all are running Linux, one is running LM 9 and the others...

Re: Poll: Who wants a 64-bit version of Linux Mint Debian?

I voted yes, I normally run the 32bit versions as I don't see any improvement in speed using the 64 bit and the memory foot print is much smaller. Anyway I do like having the option of both versions.

Re: LMDE is not a beginners distro RUBISH, absolute piffle

I will have to agree with ukbrian, installing and using are 2 totally didferent things. There is no way in h*** that my wife could install any Linux that I have seen she would be totally lost. What is on her laptop that she uses everyday LMDE. She uses to applications, Firefox for Googling and other...

Re: what's up with the Debian repos?

Anyway, I have another question. What are the caveats in using secondary mirrors and what is the best practice there? When I tried some of the secondary mirrors on the list such as linux.csua.berkely.edu (much closer geographically) I was getting round trips all the way down to 23 ms. Thanks for al...

Re: LMDE on a netbook

[ I have a Gateway with about the same specs and it runs fine. The only thing in my case that didn't work out of the box was the Broadcom 4312 wifi which is normal for most distros. I use a script to install the required files to make it work. I just discovered that I don't have any sound out for t...

Re: LMDE on a netbook

I have installed Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) on my new Acer Aspire One Netbook. Netbook has 1 Gb RAM with 160 Gb HD with the Atom N450 processor. The system only needs 528 Mb of RAM or higher to install Debian/Mint comfortably . Downloaded LMDE ISO files and added them to Unetbootin applicatio...

Is there a small grey box in the upper left corner? If so click on it and your menu should return to normal operation Also it helps to use a better title, Simple Problem won't attact much attention. If you do a search on mintmenu you will find several pages of threads about mintmenu and there is one...

Re: LMDE stable plus testing

@dolphin
I think if at this time if you would want to follow the stable route I would change testing to squeeze (currently testing) and then when Squeeze goes stable you would be at stable also. Can't say how mintupdate will handle this but from the sounds of the article it seems it should still work.
