Re: Passwords: Isn't ONCE enough?

Sigh.... I utterly fail to see what this has got to do with copyleft zealotism, because that's about extreme "free and open source" versus "proprietary and closed source". Not at all about the security that the password requirement provides. Go back through this thread and look at the responses the...

Re: Mint Rosa - VGA connection - Samsung TV - 1366×768

On some laptops, there is a function key that redirects the display from the laptop's display to an external display. On mine, it's FN + F7. Of course, your mileage may (and probably will) vary. On the key, there may be a symbol that looks like two monitors side by side. @Hoser Rob - the OP said VGA...

Re: Passwords: Isn't ONCE enough?

To the OP (if you're still here after the copyleft zealot assault you've received). If you don't like a Linux distro that enforces security on you at the user level, try one of the Puppies. http://puppylinux.com/ Rarely ever type a password in again...

Practically does everything as root.

Re: .php file problem

I know nothing about lighttpd - you said LAMP which implies you installed apache. You'd have to refer to lighttpd's documentation on how to set handlers. Also follow the advice ark987 gave.

Re: .php file problem

Sounds like you need to add a handler to httpd.conf.

Code: Select all

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddHandler x-httpd-php .php
Then restart apache.

Re: Error connecting Samsung S5 to 17.3 Cinnamon

Alright, I just plugged it in to my desktop, an old Celeron something running 17.2 Cinnamon and it works  So there's something screwy with the USBs on my laptop maybe. And I've read elsewhere on this site that mtp and mtpfs have been included with Mint since 15. Argh, so why did apt let me ins...

Error connecting Samsung S5 to 17.3 Cinnamon

I've downloaded mtp and mtp-tools as per a number of Google results I've found and restarted my computer. It worked the first time I connected, now when I try it throws up an error message. Edit: as you can see, the phone is listed in Nemo but it's not accessible (generates that error). samsung-erro...

Re: Saving changes

From what you're saying, I think you're trying to run Mint the same way the Puppies or Porteus run...not sure that's 100% achievable with Mint.

According to the Wiki article for AMV, the newer versions of ffmpeg should do the trick.

Re: Top 50 Proprietary apps and their Open Source Alternativ

While it doesn't have OneNote's functionality, I use CherryTree as a note-taking/note-storing program. Excellent app to keep assorted tidbits together for university or whatever purpose you have. The folks at LibreOffice really need to have a look at making a OneNote app, but I imagine they have oth...

I'm having the same issue as the OP.

Reading the notes tells me to click on the Fusion icon in the menu and change the manager back to Metacity. When I do that - click on it - absolutely nothing happens.
