Re: Update Manager malfunction.

As a user - groups produces martin and vboxusers.
As root (su root) - root.

Normally I tend to use su root rather than sudo in the console. It may be history but I have had hiccups with sudo in the past so perhaps I use su root unnecessarily.

LMDE blanks.

I believe that I am a Cinnamon flavoured user. At the top of the screen, left hand edge, their should be drop down lists for Applications and Places and at the extreme right hand side of the screen there should be a drop down list headed by the name of the user and containing a number of functions. ...

Update Manager malfunction.

When Update Manager is called either from the 'Update Icon' at the top of the screen or from the Main Menu the following messages are displayed; "Failed to run /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/mintUpdate.py 'show' '0' as user root. The underlying authorization mechanism (sudo) does not allow you to run...

Re: Update 5 gnome terminal failure

Thank you for your diligence. The recommendation to modify the terminal profile was fully effective. I tried a search using the word 'terminal' I think it selected 90% of the forum contents - terminal is a very popular word! Referring back to the problems relating to fonts my upgrades have given me ...

Update 5 gnome terminal failure

When Gnome Terminal is selected I am unable type in any text. If I select Gedit the keyboard strokes are faithfully reproduced. I have updated three systems, two on one computer, one of these from linux.com days before the 'release' and the other from rts-informatique.fr. This machine is a two cylin...

Re: [Known upstream bug] LMDE UP4: Printer properties error

Just to add my twopenny worth; I have two installations on the same computer using the same printer. (Dual Boot) The first installation has a level 4 update, Lmde64, and the second has a 201204 installation, lmde64. Running dpkg -l shows that they both have identical Cups software; ii cups 1.5.2-5 C...

Re: Internet Connections (Solved)

When working from a live disk your usual dns nameserver is out of the loop. The solution is to add a dns nameserver address into /etc/resolv.conf. In my case I used the dns server address supplied by the isp but I could have used the dns service supplied by the router. My thanks to Klaus Knopper. ma...

Re: Internet Connections

Failure to connect to the internet is restricted to live disks.
Behaviour within the wlan is OK with live disks.
What is the difference?

I will try changing the modem.

Re: Internet Connections

Certainly when installing a system where the condition exists that the Gateway is accessible and the internet is not then a system restart enables internet access.
This does not help with a live systm or rescue disc.

Re: It's More Than Time for a NEW LMDE Re-spin...

I lost LMDE by accident and a reload from CD calls for 950 updates to-day. What does not help is Update Manager complains about broken packages and Package Manager swears blind that there are none. When you try updating with apt-get there are various 'useful' notes in the middle of the update that i...

CD v DVD Install

Apologies if this has been suggested before. With CD downloads space is at a premium and sometimes useful applications are sacrificed. Is it possible to add a file giving details of what compromises have been made and perhaps a shortage list of what has been missed off. The shortage list could inclu...

Re: Host Names

My system, an Edimax router/adslmodem/wireless lan - 2 AMD Athlon computers - HP1100 printer, will not install a remote CUPS printer using host names unless the details of the host names are in the hosts file. You can install using ip numbers. This is not what you say in your third paragraph. One co...
