Re: Installing SSD with LMDE . . .
It would be very unlikely to be an IDE connection, they have been phased out of preference for a while now, IDE drives are in fact more expensive than SATA ones! If it was an IDE connection, I would imagine that any advantage gained in the SSD would be wiped out by slow transfer speeds. To find whet...

Re: amazon mp3 downloader
I had the same (or at least similar) problem installing on Mint main edition. There is a fairly long list of dependencies that seem to be missing, which some of those also have missing dependencies! The way I solved it was to go to the Ubuntu Packages (http://packages.ubuntu.com/) and search for the...

Re: How do I detect my hardware?
in Mint, inxi is a useful command to find hardware information, try inxi -h for a list of options to display, for example inxi -A gives information about audio. In Windows XP, I don't know of any command line method of finding hardware info, however if you right-click on my computer, click propertie...

Re: Netbook cannot find internal Hard drive
OK, try installing disk utility on the live USB apt install gnome-disk-utility if it asks for a password I think its blank so just press enter or it might be 'mint'. Find Disk utility in the menu and see if that can find it. It seems the last part-install seems to have left you hard drive confused!

Re: Netbook cannot find internal Hard drive
On the live USB, take a look in the "Disk Utility" ( I *think* its on the live USB (otherwise maybe gparted is??)) and see if your harddrive shows up in there. It may be worth formatting or clearing it in there and then try to install again.

Have you got "spin down hard disks where possible" ticked in power management? Would be surprised if that solved everything but it might go someway to helping

Re: LM10 Long Boot
Im not too sure if those like d00med posted are particularly relevant. It seems that udev takes a while to start (about 1 minute). Things you could try - go to BIOS and disable floppy drive (assuming you don't use it) and remove any USB media and see if that has any effect.

Re: my PC's boot chart, boot very slowly.how to solve it?
How strange, there seems to be no CPU or hard drive I/O for 110 seconds! I personally could not tell from that what the problem might be, could you do
and post the contents of 'dmesg.txt' which will now be in your home directory?
Code: Select all
dmesg >dmesg.txt

Re: How to disable SSH and ipv6?
Well first of all, why do you want to do this? IPv6 is disabled by default by the network manager, I don't think there is an associated service with it. As for SSH, unless you have specifically installed an SSH server such as openSSH then your computer only has the client abilities (can connect to a...

Re: LM10 Long Boot
Try pressing escape after the grub boot screen, it will show the messages being printed, could be something useful in there. Also, once you are booted, can you do and copy and paste the contents of dmesg.txt which will be in your home directory here?
Code: Select all
dmesg > dmesg.txt

It seems to work fine for me so probably not a problem with the repositories. Have you tried and checking it can find it?
Also, how about trying through the Software manager?

apt search testdisk

Re: Not hibernating
Not too sure about how to solve but you could try the hibernate package in from the repositories apt install hibernate which you should be able to customise (helped me to hibernate my PC with a mis-behaving GPU. Something to note is that using a flash memory stick as swap is a bad idea, the type of ...

For the sound, try going to "sound" in the Menu and on the hardware tab, see if you can change the Profile to a digital output to see if that helps
