Re: Overclocked cpu and Linux Mint KDE

in Mint, the CPU tends to be throttled unless it is required (saves power). Try adding the "CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor" to the gnome panel (bar at bottom of screen). Just right-click in empty space and select add to panel. Click on that and it will display the modes that it can support. If you al...

Re: Why does my laptop freeze

AT beat me to it! but here goes anyway! 1) I think that amount of RAM should be fine, it may make for a not particularly fast experience especially doing many things at once but I couldn't imagine its causing freezes. 2) swap is when your computer has to use space on the hardrive, essentially once i...

Re: How do I find out the size of my harddrive in Linux Mint

1) there is some loss in formatting, I have an 82GB drive with only 75.1 reported total

2) Never noticed that before but this https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s ... stion/8609 seems to explain it pretty well and what you can possibly do about it

Re: Why does my laptop freeze

Possibly, how much do you have? Look in the system monitor under the resources tab. Also look how much is being used and how much swap is being used?

Also can you post the output of

Code: Select all

inxi -G
as it can also be a graphics issue

no problem, could you edit the first post so that the subject contains [Solved]? It just helps people if they have the same problem.

Re: Apple Magic Mouse and Mac Keyboard driver?

probably not a dedicated one but I think they are both bluetooth so just go to "bluetooth" in the menu and see if you can find and pair them, it should do the rest on its own. You may have to go to keyboard settings to change the layout of the keyboard to match the apple one.

Re: can't use right number keyboard

I think this is a bit of a bug as the same happens to me. Go have a look in assistive technologies, click on keyboard accessibility and go to the mouse keys tab and untick the box. see if that works.

For some reason it does occasionally re-tick itself so you'll have to go through and do it again

Re: Help with WZ2100

well there's one line
Permission denied
that suggests it possibly has to be run as root - so you could try

Code: Select all

sudo make install
Its often considered poor advice to say "if it doesn't work as normal, try root" but I think its the best first port of call in this instance.

Re: LMDE Print Screen

Just found out you cant in the regular edition either! you can overcome this by going to the screenshot program, and selecting a delay of say 2 seconds and then opening the menu. I agree that this could be categorised as a bug.

Re: How to intall without .tar or .deb

try doing apt install build-essential then going to where you extracted the files and doing ./configure . It will probably not make it all the way through as you will probably have some dependencies not met, for example, I just tried it and got "Cannot locate flex binary." so a quick search in the r...

Re: shutdown form command without root.

To run a root command without having to type the password, you need to add that command to the sudoers file. to do that, first sudo visudo then add the lines USERNAME ALL = NOPASSWD: /sbin/shutdown where you need to replace USERNAME with the username of the account you want to be able to shutdown th...

Re: Netbook hibernates when switching to battery alimentatio

I had this before, try going to "power management" and changing "when laptop lid is closed" in both on battery and AC tabs to "blank screen" although not perfect, having a black screen is a lot less annoying than it hibernating every time! This happened a while ago, I believe it may have been fixed ...

Re: Printer gets Lost

when it happens, try doing

Code: Select all

sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart
in the terminal, I had a similar problem. Also, possibly try to give the printer a static IP address either from your router or on the printer's config page or both!

Re: TightVNC Blank/Black screen

There has been some incompatibility with proprietary graphics drivers, try turning the desktop effects on the server computer to none and connecting again. Are you on the same network as the computer you are controlling? If so there should be no need to port forward, in fact its best not to if you d...

Re: PXE is... gone?

a BIOS update is unlikely to affect things like this. I had a laptop that did very similar things to this, the way I could get it to boot from CD was to put the CD in the drive, go into the BIOS (keep pressing the relevant key at boot (usually escape, delete or sometimes F12)) go to the boot device ...

Yes it drops straight in in the same fashion it does in Ubuntu itself, just go to the software manager and search "ubuntuone" and install the relevant files

Go to advanced search
