Re: OS for dual quadcore system?

You'll have to have a Mac Pro to do what you suggest if you are saying dual CPU computer capable of running all 3 OS's. There are no other dual CPU capable machines that can do as you suggest, with the exception being the odd "hackintosh" home built machine. Results of the hackintosh attempts are us...

Re: Wireless Driver Issue w/ Mint 15

And hope it gets fix for you. But blaming Mint when in fact it's an Ubuntu issue. Means Mint can't fix it and needs a fix from Ubuntu. Which I am sure is in the works. But yep can be a pain in the arse. But don't give Mint the bad rap here blaming them. As wasn't them that broke it. . I didn't give...

Yes, you can choose one to install initially and then add more once the system is installed. You choose which DE at login.

It's a bug and I will try to find the link. You need to install a newer driver to correct the problem.

Re: How to "downgrade" from 15 to 13?

There should have been a prominent warning about this on the download page.... While I feel for your situation, why would a warning on the download page be necessary? You installed Mint 15 directly, not from an upgrade, so why would you assume you could downgrade via "downgrade"? I haven't used an ...

Re: Dell Inspirion 1501 Wifi Driver In LM15

Have you tried to

Code: Select all

sudo rfkill unblock all
Also, have you confirmed your driver (b43 I presume) is present in

Code: Select all

lsmod
and not blacklisted by mistake (even though the instructions you linked to show how to use # to remove the blacklist if present)?

Re: Wifi on Mint 15 live-disk, no wifi after installing

It depends on why it's not working. It could be a matter of having a missing driver activated on startup or that the system incorrectly configures it (or uses the wrong one) on install. Do you know which driver module should be activated? And have you checked

Code: Select all

lsmod
to see if it's active?

Re: Unable to install LM 15

I don't think it's being ignored so much as maybe not many experienced it to offer suggestions. It looks nearly identical to a video issues I had installing Win 8, which remains a failure because the nVidia driver from HP was tweaked in Vista and never updated for 8. I can't offer a solution and say...

Re: Wireless disappeared at reboot

When you restarted, was it soft reboot or did you completely shut down and restart? And have you tried to modprobe the driver via something like sudo modprobe b43 (b43 is a driver for a Broadcom BCM4311 and others) You can substitute b43 with whatever driver is used in Linux for your device. I'm cur...

Re: Is mint into PRISM PROJECT???

Yeah, I'm not sure what it will take to fight it, but the American public seems to be ready for the fight. They basically took our laws and threw them out the window in the name of protecting us. The problem is most all of "us" are not the problem.

Re: Is mint into PRISM PROJECT???

ya the 1e100.net has nothing to do with mint at all, it's all google stuff for their servers and by their explanation it makes sense. What else they got going on, no clue. A lot of paranoia going on with this Prism stuff, even though they constantly say they listen to chatter all the time, it's bee...

Re: Is mint into PRISM PROJECT???

OP, how would you conclude Mint is doing anything suspicious based on how Google communicates with its servers, and thus its services? Are you possibly using their DNS servers? (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4)

Re: Laptop Heat

Did you load the proprietary driver for the nVidia or are you running the open source driver? I'm not sure how well the open source drivers work lately, but they had issues in older releases with throttling. They generally kept the GPU running at max speed, which was a huge cause of heat. If you hav...

Re: Installing over Fedora

Is one of your choices /dev/sda for grub or what are the choices you are presented with? I think that's where you'd want it. And to pick the partition, just choose the ext4 partition, or whatever you formatted your Fedora installation to. Your swap partition shouldn't need to be changed. Once you pu...

That thread response you saw above is from 3 years ago. Have you had a look at http://askubuntu.com/questions/305574/install-ati-radeon-2400-hd-pro-on-ubuntu-13-04 as it references a fix using fglrx-legacy ?

Re: WiFi 802.11 Auth

I think the problem is on the Broadcom end, not Ubuntu, but since that's the driver in the repos it fails in all of them. I've seen this happen with the b43 driver in the past as well where just one version is flawed for many users.
