Re: What's the point of using a keyring in Mint13 Mate?

I am not 100% certain, but I do recall Ubuntu and Mint used the keyring for wifi passwords only when they were Gnome 2 based. I would imagine that has carried over into Mate as a default as well. I've never seen it used for other than wifi.

Re: DSL connection will not load every website

I don't think it would be Java related since it affects so many versions. I mistakenly thought you had said 13.04 worked so I was a bit puzzled, but that makes me think Ubuntu changed something in a configuration from one version to the next and Mint is just carrying the flaw over as well. If you ha...

Re: Linux won't install. (Some issues.)

Do you have an old machine you can cannibalize to use the drive from it? Even if it's smaller it can get you back up and running temporarily. And if you are able to get to any data on that old disk, do it now...assuming you have files you'd like to save.

Re: DSL connection will not load every website

And have you tried to determine if it's a Java issue? Wondering if a corrupted java configuration on your machine could cause only those sites engaging Java to not load?

Re: DSL connection will not load every website

Are you also having the problem on both wireless and Ethernet? Or do you have the ability to test both ways? And do you have another machine in the house running Mint 12 or another version (or even Ubuntu or Debian) that is working so you can go through all DNS, networking and other settings? There ...

Re: DSL connection will not load every website

Only a couple things come to mind. Does this happen with Firefox, Chrome, Chromium, etc? And do you have any extensions active such as AdBlock or others that could be preventing the site from loading? Sometimes I have to allow exceptions just to get a page to load when running AdBlock.

Re: I want to stop my laptop FAN

I don't know of any electronic way to do it. Can you open up the laptop and unplug it? You'll need to pay very close attention to temperatures because no external device can cool like an internal fan and you risk hardware damage from heat.

Could be the wrong driver or setup incorrectly by Mint. Can you tell us which Broadcom it is?

Re: supported?

LMDE (Debian based Mint) is supported indefinitely because it is a rolling release, meaning continuous (for the most part) updates. There are more details available about how Debian Testing, which LMDE is based upon, updates if you search the forum or Google. It's a bit lengthy to describe here, but...

Re: Switching DEs

LXDE has typically been faster on the desktop than Cinnamon, Gnome 3, Unity or XFCE for me on several different machines. Short of going openbox and maybe enlightenment (not sure on that one) it's probably the lightest you can get.

Re: Can't delete files with corrupt filenames

I haven't tried in a very long time, but if the file names are in letters, numbers and standard keyboard symbols, can you enter a terminal, display contents of that directory they are in, then delete by typing in the file name as it exists in terminal? Could even copy/paste the file name following t...

Re: Why isn't WiFi support available on install?

One irony that i tried to address a year or two ago is the very problem the OP listed. It is even one that ubuntu has addressed in their live media. Some Broadcom devices require a proprietary driver and users are almost always told to install, then connect, update and install driver. What so many f...

Re: Almost Ready to Leave the Dark Side

Is it that you're not mounting it properly or at all? I can't tell from your posts if you're able to see it but just not communicating with it in a way that lets files be saved/accessed, or if you're not seeing it at all via Mint. Forgive me if I'm off base with my understanding of the issue...but m...

Re: Problem with flash

Do you happen to be using a machine that has nVidia or ATi video? If so, have you tried or are you using the proprietary driver?

Flash is horrible, but that's a really bad result in the picture even for Flash. Are you having any other problems with videos or hardware?

Normally you can just accept all updates after the final release and you should be running the same version/packages.

Re: Dumb blonde has sporadic crashes

Is there any chance this happens when you have more apps going or you are putting more demand on the system? I have read that there are users who have Linux installed but for some reason the system failed to create a swap partition, basically allowing them to run out of memory and pushing the system...
