Re: problems installing kphotoalbum, KDE Julia

rec9140 - you are supplying advice and support far beyond the call of duty. Thank you very much indeed. As soon as I get a chance I'll take a spin and see how it goes. OK.... I have not got a clue what this program does :P :D So I will leave to some one who does to give it a whirl.... I love this pr...

Re: "maximise" KDE 4 Desktop folder

Just kill the plasma-desktop process, that's also a way to get rid of it. It may restart but then kill it again and Plasma Desktop is away. What an interesting suggestion! I shall try it when I next have a go with KDE 4. I am a long-standing KDE patriot who really wants to like KDE 4 but still find...

Re: problems installing kphotoalbum, KDE Julia

I shall contact the Kphotoalbum devs. However I may take a look at other Already done: see http://mail.kdab.com/pipermail/kphotoalbum/2011-March/004650.html Its a KPhotoAlbum issue in that they are depending on a specific version of the lib, and its been updated and replaced, so any KDE based distr...

Re: problems installing kphotoalbum, KDE Julia

If your willing to test something do this.. Thanks for your thoughtful suggestion. I had wondered if something like this might be possible - however, I am not sure this would be the way for me to go with a 'working' desktop. I depend on my photos to do my job, and the nagging fear that an update co...

Re: problems installing kphotoalbum, KDE Julia

Thank you all for your advice. This is extremely bad news for me as I have depended upon Kphotoalbum for some years. Actually, one of the things that I have always liked about it is its simplicity and "lack of features" - I just want something that will organise pics and help me find them, nothing m...

Re: problems installing kphotoalbum, KDE Julia

rec9140 - that was a quick reply! Thank you.

Do you think this will be fixed by an update in the near future, or do you think we will be waiting some time? I have to ask as I am an artist with 15,000 digital photos on an NAS all catalogued using kphotoalbum!

Thanks again for your help.

problems installing kphotoalbum, KDE Julia

Dear friends, Brand new install of KDE Julia; updated to KDE 4.6.1. I attempt to install one of my 'workhorse' apps, kphotoalbum, using Synaptic - results in the following message. kphotoalbum: Depends: libmarblewidget10 but it is not going to be installed Recommends: khelpcenter but it is not insta...

Re: LM10 KDE - should I choose 32-bit or 64-bit?

Thanks very much for your advice. With 'only' 3Gb RAM at present, I think I'll start off with 32-bit and see how I go.

LM10 KDE - should I choose 32-bit or 64-bit?

After being away from KDE for some time, I am considering the current Mint KDE edition for a new PC with Athlon x4 240 processor (2.8GHz) and 3Gb DDR3 memory. Thanks to the ability of Linux to run on legacy equipment, this is the first new PC I have bought for over six years, and the first with a 64...

Re: installing LMDE on Virtualbox

Thanks for replying, ukbrian. I suspect that LMDE does not like the version of VirtualBox (3.1.2) which I am using. I have managed to install LMDE on a more recent version of VBox on my wife's computer -- but I cannot get the .vdi thus generated to boot cleanly when I attach it to a new applicance o...

installing LMDE on Virtualbox

I am running PClinuxOS 2009.2. I am very keen indeed to try LMDE and I have been trying to install it in Virtualbox 3.1.2. I have downloaded an ISO which I know is good (it boots and installs happily on another 'real' machine) but I cannot get it to boot and install virtually, which is what I need m...

Re: lost connection with NAS box after installing USB printe

Thanks for your rapid response, altair4. I'll try the diagnostic tests that you recommend. I can confirm that ethernet cable is attached (shared internet connection from our router is fine) and that I have tried with firewall on and off! The fact that I suddenly cannot contact the NAS via http might...

lost connection with NAS box after installing USB printer

I had Helena, fully updated, running very sweetly on my wife's PC. We could access network shares on our Iomega NAS (wired Ethernet connection) via Samba with no problems at all; also we could log into the NAS (static IP address) using a web browser. For the first time ever, I installed a local prin...

Quanta Plus in KDE Helena

I am wondering to what extent it is possible to run KDE 3 apps under Helena KDE 4. In particular, I am concerned about Quanta Plus. IMHO it is the best app of its kind but it has not been ported to KDE 4, and who knows whether or not it ever will be. However, I find it in the repos for Helena Gnome ...

Re: move to Helena from another (KDE) distro: personal data etc.

Thanks very much to everyone who has replied so promptly! I can see that I'm going to be best off retaining my "dot" config directories for mozilla and a few other apps and removing all other configuration files.

move to Helena from another (KDE) distro: personal data etc.

I have used KDE 3.x every day for several years on other distros. However, I am not sure that the direction KDE is now taking is right for me. I have been taking a look at Helena and I am really impressed - am now contemplating jumping ship from the dying KDE 3.5.10 to Mint and Gnome. If possible, I...
