Hmmm. Didn't work for me on HP laptop. My problems is really kind of weird, though. I use Wifi. I am dual booting Windows 7 and Isadora. When I log in to the Wifi with the sign on code, whichever OS I sign on with has very limited d/l speeds around 30 KB/s. The other OS runs at 160 KB/s (about 1 mbp...

Retired Navy here, and Linux Mint user since January. My first computer was Timex-Sinclair 1000. Then VIC-20. Finally moved way up to Atari 800xl with a whole 64k of RAM. First used MS in the DOS days, so command line is nothing new. It's what made computers fun.

I too have used windows since the dos days. As a matter of fact, my very first computer was a Timex-Sinclair 1000. The reason I switched from Windows 7 to Linux Mint 8 is because linux is FUN. I guess what makes me different from most windows users is an interest in how things work. When I switched ...

I am running Mint 8 main, and had begun having the same problem. This may or may not work for you, but for me it stopped my wifi from disconnecting, and doubled my connection strength. Against popular opinion I replaced Network Manager with WICD, and installed the Network Selector Panel Applet. It i...
Hi. I have an HPG61-511wm, and have spent the past month trying to solve sound problems. This afternoon I read a post I hadn't seen before regarding sound on the HP. It's the only one I hadn't tried yet, and it worked. The poster was an HP Pavillion -dv4 owner. In the terminal enter: sudo gedit /etc...

I have an HP laptop model G61-511wm and like so many other hp owners, have the problem of the sound only coming through the headphones and not at all through the speakers. I have searched the forums and tried many of the recommendations such as adding the commands to the alsa-base.conf file, etc., b...
I also am among the growing number of Windows users who wanted more from my os. Three weeks ago I downloaded Mint 8 and installed as a dual boot with Windows 7 on my new laptop. It only took me one day to begin using Mint almost exclusively, when I saw that my wifi speed quadrupled in Mint (I don't ...

I just bought a new hp laptop last week (HP G61-511WM) which was loaded with Windows 7. I have been wanting to try linux Mint as soon as I got a computer. I was worried about compatibility, but downloaded the Helena iso to try it out. When I booted the DVD there was no sound and wifi did not work. I...
