Tried two installations of Mint 18 KDE so far. While it looked pretty nice, I had multiple crashes of the compositor in both installations. Most notably it would crash every time I opened MintUpdate. By updating using the method you described, you bypassed the preset stability levels of the Mint Update Manager. It most likely won't cause problems, but if you run into some instability, you now know what is the most likely cause.
