Re: looking for a panel applet for fast user switching

hmm just tried MATE 1.8 (on Ubuntu 14.04, waiting for Mint17!) and no sign of the applet there either! that's a shame. there is an applet to lock the screen but it's not as good as we had in Gnome 2.32, that listed all the usernames.

looking for a panel applet for fast user switching

Gnome 2 had a nice applet for this, seems to be part of Indicator Applet Session 0.4.6 Any equivalent or port for MATE please? Basically a button on the panel you click and it shows a list all users (with an icon next to logged on ones, nice but not essential), and lets you click a username to switc...

Re: switching users from lockscreen - not possible?!

Just for your information, the symlink trick is also required with maya xfce using xscreensaver. With this screensaver, the button is there but doesn't work until gdmflexiserver exists. I would like to go a step beyond with the cairo-dock logout applet (on cinnamon or xfce). When gdmflexiserver exi...

Re: How to disable xscreensaver [solved]

2 years later, can anyone tell me if this still works please? just realised XFCE Mint13 still has this issue i think, you can't switch users from the lockscreen. disabling xscreensaver just means users can switch with no security at all! also the xfce panel switch user dialogue is confusing, with it...

Re: How do you 'create new user' in XFCE? (SOLVED)

yeah.. so.. you aren't going to roll a 13.2 LTS based on ubuntu 12.04.2 with this fixed? please don't take this the wrong way, i'm really impressed with mint13 xfce, just needed something to quickly upgrade from mint11 gnome and it's the done the job, but there's always at least one total head-slapp...

Re: Mint 14 does not honor duplex printing.

hey i just tried printing duplex with my HP LaserJet 2300.. worked first time. Not being snarky you reminded me i needed to test it thanks. recently got the printer and installed Mint14 KDE. there is a kind of bug i found but it's something unrelated (you have to open print queue and presume RESUME ...

the Browse button when adding new "windows printer via SAMBA" is greyed out. in Gnome, i can use this button.. edit: SOLVED! there's a button in KDE print setup marked "reject print jobs" .. and it's ticked by default . so untick it.. fantastic. wow don't even get me started, eit...

laptop: Mint 14 KDE RC with all updates printer: USB printer on linux NAS, works fine from my older Mint / Ubuntu Gnome desktops. network: simple LAN connected fine to router. SMB4k can see all the shares including the printer ok. Dolphin can't seem to connect to shares. the KDE printer config seems...

Re: Installer crash leaves grub broken + Q about bad media?

should i file a bug report for the installer breaking grub?

also at some point i'd like to get Mint14 installed. might try on another system and just confirm it's something particular to the partitions/SSD on the first one.

Installer crash leaves grub broken + Q about bad media?

first great job on Mint14 Cinnamon it runs way better on this old system than 13. not sure if credit goes to Radeon driver or what but hey, nice. Installer crashes during file copy with error (sorry didn't get exact wording) about bad source OR bad destination. bit vague there. i've tried a couple o...

sorry to be going OT.. you can run GTK2 apps in a GTK3 DE AND GT3 apps in a GTK2 DE, with no issues other than cosmetic ones?

Re: SolusOS 2 Alpha3 Released (Gnome 3.4)

yeah i edited my post to clarify - the concern with MATE is its GTK2 based and there may be problems with apps going forward. i had ruled MATE out. thought this would be a good time to update but turns out to be a mess (not blaming anyone, just how things are).. might wait and let things settle eh.

Re: SolusOS 2 Alpha3 Released (Gnome 3.4)

It's usable but obviously doesn't receive tender loving care from Gnome as it is a soon deprecated fallback session for unsupported graphics cards. I feel SolusOS have taken a better approach patching the fallback than MATE porting Gnome 2, will be interesting to see how it develops. yes i agree it...

"In SolusOS 2 we will be using GNOME 3.4, which in its current state features a largely unusable fallback mode." can someone please point me to some info about why the standard Gnome 3.4x fallback mode (i presume the same as what's included with both Mint13 main releases just configured di...

Re: What do you not like about Cinnamon?

but gnome classsic included in Mint13 Cinnamon (which is Gnome 3.4.1 i think? at least that's what system monitor told me) looked fine to me, pretty much same as Gnome2. I haven't tried any other 3d rendered desktops to know if it's just Cinnamon that looks bad or e.g. if Unity or KDE (?) would look...

Re: What do you not like about Cinnamon?

was just playing with cinnamon trying to decide if i want to roll it out.. and noticed font rendering isn't nearly as clear as Gnome2 or Gnome-classic. whichever theme i select, fonts look like what they are, which is texture mapped 3d right? this is quite serious really. is this just my open source...
