Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

Live CD installer bug (polite bump) I posted here earlier, and I am not sure if this is the appropriate place for this? Where should I post to get attention of the Devs of RC please? Being a bug in the Live CD installer, then if someone stumbles onto it as I did, they will get their drive trashed. ...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

"calender in wrong place" thing didn't happen 2nd time i booted mint on same machine.
res was 1440x900 btw

also, we're criticising the theme but i noticed the radiance/ambience themes in ubuntu also have a 1 pixel handle on some windows e.g. console. so it's not all Mint-X's fault!

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

I like the new style, visually, but why do Ubuntu theme creators (including the new mint-x theme) think that window borders are optional? At a minimum, making the bottom border a few pixels wide (as it was previously) at least makes it easy to grab a bottom corner of a window resize when there is n...

Re: Linux Mint 10 RC Live USB fails to startx

i guess my post above (where i bolded the e) was too subtle :(

did it work without nomodeset after installing nvidia drivers?

i can't see a way to test mint10 (or ubuntu 10.10) with nvidia drivers without installing to disk, a slight catch22

Re: Linux Mint 10 RC Live USB fails to startx

ro nomod e set this disables KMS so not something you'd want to use forever. http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1592763 see if that lets you boot, then try installing nvidia driver, hopefully after rebooting you won't need nomodeset. no guarantees though. maybe nouveau doesn't like n...

Re: Linux Mint 10 RC Live USB fails to startx

right well clearly an upstream problem such a major one that Mint might want to hold off on release until this is fixed/worked around e.g. by including older xorg or driver? there are loads of reports of nvidia problems with maverick if you google. maybe try nvidia 256.x driver, seems 260.x with lat...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

is there a ny way to test the nvidia drivers (or proprietary drivers in genera) from a liveCD/USB session ? i get told to restart, but of course, there is no persistence. restarting X causes failure (module nvidia not found > no screens found). would really like to check the proprietary drivers work...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

agreed, and i don't like the direction ubuntu is taking with it's cloud/one/store either. a proper list of changes would help everyone decide what exactly to use, even if it's parts of mint and parts of other projects like elementary and sabayon.

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

i'm curious about all the people who says Mint works properly for them when Ubuntu doesn't. My experience on 3 different PCs is that Ubuntu 10.10 is very solid where 10.04 AND Mint9 had issues (for example, Radeon AGP video card). Most of these are kernel issues, and since Mint uses the Ubuntu kerne...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

easiest way to try mint using windows and a memstick - download uni installer from pendrivelinux.com, select "other iso". works with any release. anyone tried installing elementary on mint10? http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/10/elementary-2-5-released-adds-new-icons/ They seem to have (again no offen...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

thanks for the intelligent replies, and yes i wasnt thinking of the funding. could you (they) try to make the mint search results less offensive; it is not a good first impression when opening (the only included) browser! yes i was going to go on about the icon colour problems but probably easier to...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

couple of points, been using Mint since 7 and now seriously unsure whether to use it for my big rollout or to go with SuperOS 1) as said above, please fix notify position. you've moved the menu so you must move the notification also. otherwise user looking in wrong corner. basic usability problem an...

Re: mintupdate doesn't play well with multiple users

it tries to run on every account, but it silently fails (except the first account which works ok). if you then try to run it from console, you can see its a permissions issue in /tmp which i assume is why it was failing to appear on login. i think.. i'm quite new to Mint8 sorry, but there definitely...

[no bug?] mintupdate doesn't play well with multiple users

mintupdate seems to fail if run on under any account other than the first which ran it, something about temporary file permissions. after deleting temp files it worked ok under another account. a small issue but took me a while to figure out (only after running from commandline and watching output)....

no wireless on some boots, incorrect atheros device ID ff1b

Hi, i've recently installed Mint8 on a Toshiba NB100. This is about my 4th Mint install. Generally this install is working well except for one horrible problem: Seemingly randomly (maybe 1 in 5 boots) the wireless networking is completely missing from networkmanager. This does not happen whilst the ...
