Re: Poor font quality in XFCE-Debian

I tried to take screenshots of the same paragraphs, but missed . [ Edit: Just corrected the images. Now they're the same.] The issue isn't confined to FF, but to fonts in all applications and the DE. Re: Poor font quality in XFCE-Debian

I dont know what we are going to do for the main editions now that there is a switch to Unity. Neither do I. The hope is that Unity will mature over the next year and become more configurable. Ultimately, I just don't like being stuck with a panel at the top of my screen, global menu or not. I like...

Re: Poor font quality in XFCE-Debian

I dont think thats the only or best way to get better fonts. I just tried CrunchBang and it was probably the fastest distro I have ever tried on my modern hardware. Everything was instant and I didnt feel like I sacrificed too much functionality for it. Interesting. You were using the latest versio...

Re: Poor font quality in XFCE-Debian

Xubuntu defeats the point of using XFCE because they built it on a Gnome base. If you want a slow bloated distro why not just use Gnome? You incorrectly assume that I'm interested in XFCE because it's less "bloated" (loaded term) than Gnome; but one user's bloat is another user's improvement. I'm i...

Re: Poor font quality in XFCE-Debian

I've also noticed the poor font quality in Debian XFCE. I notice that Xubuntu (XFCE 4.8 ) is quite good, like Ubuntu, and OpenSuse's XFCE, also 4.8, seems very good. I don't know whether the problem is the older version of XFCE or the problem is Debian, but no amount of tweaking (yet) has improved t...

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!

Mint Debian is just Debian with some Mint things added: Mintmenu, Mintupdate, Mintwifi, Mintinstall / software manager, ... The system itself is still Debian. So you're thinking a Mint XFCE would have been going to far afield? 4.8 seems to be quite the improvement. I wonder what Debian's time line ...

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!

Because Debian have included that version in their testing repository. Xfce 4.8 is in Sid at the moment, you need some patience before Debian Testing will get this version. Right, but this isn't Debian. This is Mint Debian. I'm just curious as to why Mint (Clem) didn't opt for the more recent versi...

Sorry if this question has already been asked: But why XFCE 2.6 rather than 2.8?

Re: Limited to 2 Workspaces using Compiz/XFCE

Thanks. I just switched to AWN to see if there was a difference. Same issue. Can't open an app unless it's in the current workspace. Probably AWN & Docky looking in the wrong place (Gnome based) - but sorting this out is beyond my ken.

Re: Limited to 2 Workspaces using Compiz/XFCE

Thankyou. You know... I looked, but didn't look deeply enough.

Now if I could just get Docky to register the workspaces. Clicking on an active app only works if the app is in the current workspace.

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!

I'm connected to my DSL modem wirelessly (XFCE Debian) - of no help to you. You've probably considered firewall issues? - either in the OS or in the modem? And DHCP settings? Though I can't fathom how that would change between OS's.

Re: Emerald & Firefox 4 on XFCE Debian

Thanks. I've got FF4 installed alongside FF3.6 - using profiles with both. (Having two versions is useful to me.) Oddly (and unlike Ubuntu) the profile which is *not* the default asks me to confirm which profile I want to use even though I've check the "Don't ask at Startup" checkbox. I'm wondering ...

Limited to 2 Workspaces using Compiz/XFCE

Currently, and after installing COMPIZ, I find I'm limited to two workspaces. If I click on the workspaces app (under XFCE control center) I can't make any changes. Is there a setting in Compiz that has taken this over? Or am I dealing with a bug? I seem to remember, way back when I tried Mint Debia...

//having all kinds of problems connecting to the internet ... says cable not connected...// I'm not hack-capable, but my suggestion would be to disable or better, uninstall, the current network manager and try installing "wicd" or "knetwork". Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!

My experience installing XFCE Debian has been good... both times. Borked the system the first time. Installed Compiz & Emerald. I notice that I can no longer add or remove Workspaces (having handed control to Copmiz)? Am limited to two. A bug? Other than that, if Gnome 3 & Unity continue with their ...

Emerald & Firefox 4 on XFCE Debian

Hi Folks, this might not be the right forum in which to post these questions. Move it if it's not. I've installed XFCE Debian and I'd like to transition to this as my main Distro. I've been using Ubuntu for a couple of years and I'm not liking Gnome 3, Unity (ask if you want) or the release schedule...

Only 1 Workspace in LMDE?

Working with LMDE. Compiz is up and running, but now I only have 1 workspace? If I add the workspace switcher to the panel, I see four workspaces but clicking on any of them does nothing. Cntrl-Alt-Arrow-Key also does nothing. I don't know if the installation of compiz has anything to do with it? An...

Restoring LMDE's GDM3 Background?

Hi Folks, I guess I know just enough about Linux to be dangerous. When I installed LMDE and updated the software, I unthinkingly allowed the upgrade to replace LMDE's GDM3. So, I now get the standard Debian (blue) background when logging in. Not a big deal; but how do I restore LMDE's GDM background...
