Mint 8 KDE... no updates forever & can't force FFox upgrade
I'm in Linux Mint 8 KDE <<< it's all been working so great I've never had to become an ultra Linux pro under the hood. Lately, however, I never get any update notifications via the Update Manager. It's been forever since the icon showed itself unlocked, and if I open it says system up to date for al...

Re: Chrome freaking - breaking after update
Thanks.... It is weird that I still have a problem. I'm in KDE Mint 8 ... I have dispensed with beta and have: 12.0.742.100 "stable" <<< this version updated today Usually trying to open Chrome has it spinning its wheels. I close it, open again and it resolves on homepage google.com If I g...

Re: Chrome freaking - breaking after update
Curious to try to "force" it to use an earlier version. Afraid to lose all bookmarks, etc though.......... and damned if I can't figure out how to export that data prior to messing with it

Re: Chrome freaking - breaking after update
open synaptic, from menubar, choose file->history and see what you have update recently. Reverting it back might help. try open the application from terminal, see what error is coming out... Via synaptic I find April 16: "google-chrome-beta (10.0.648.127-r76697) to 11.0.696.48-r81577" How...

Re: Chrome freaking - breaking after update
Sorry, I'm no power user Linux guru. It all works well enough (Mint 8 KDE).... I hit the update manger now and then and realize some new Chrome thing. The icon changed, so something. Just updated to 11.0.696.50 beta this morning (via update manager). Got in gmail and thought it was "fixed"...

Chrome freaking - breaking after update
I believe Chrome was updated recently. The icon for Chrome is somehow different, simplified. Version 11.0.696.48 beta I'm in Mint KDE 8 Suddenly Chrome appears so far to work fine, until one tries to access gmail . Then it breaks with some idiot message asking if you want to "kill the pages&quo...

Re: update bug.. then "unresolvable dependencies"
Thanks.... will try. Not sure how to know which repository kdenlive comes from though. ...how one finds such a thing out? Thinking about this has me freaked out. The program kdenlive is no longer on menu... It's as if something uninstalled the program. I mean the idea that a program uninstalls witho...

update bug.. then "unresolvable dependencies"
So.... suddenly I could not update because of needing to fix broken something. (and "fixing" in synaptic edit/fix broken... did not solve the problem) http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=47562&start=20#p292728 But this seemed to oddly clear up with no clue wh y. Howev...

Re: Broken Packages?
I am having this same problem suddenly.... After having done many updates before. Synaptic Edit/fix broken packages.. to no avail. Synaptic says "0 broken" at lower right of its window. ...nothing shows on Synaptic custom filters. No matter what, the update says I must "fix broken pac...

Destktop behaviour issues
Mint 8 KDE here. ... Things working pretty well for a long time. But now desktop issues that don't go away on reboot. Problem is, I don't know the right language to use to explain. I have these transparent folder windows on my desktop. One of them says inside it "Home> Desktop". Once I cou...

Re: How To: Google Chrome for Linux
An easier way - Go here: http://dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel Scroll down the page until you see the Linux section, then click on the appropriate .deb package (either 32 or 64-bit). It will then install Chrome on your system, plus add the Chrome repos so it stays up to date. Thanks....

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
n00b too here... But I have Mint 8 KDE running and also XP as a guest via VirtualBox. That was my goal and so I'm pretty happy about it. Learned a few things ironing out problems here and there. But... a few things that seem odd to me still right at the moment: 1> It is difficult to find where thing...

Re: newly installed apps not showing up in the menu
Should not be necessary to reboot, just run Code: Select all killall gnome-panel from a terminal to reload the panel and menu, and the entries should show up. How utterly strange. I did this and GnomeBaker and K3b showed up on the menu. However, later on after a reboot the items are not on the menu...

Re: newly installed apps not showing up in the menu
OMG... it worked :D Should not be necessary to reboot, just run Code: Select all killall gnome-panel from a terminal to reload the panel and menu, and the entries should show up. ^^^ I saw but assumed that would happen auto on reboot (but I guess not). Now if the mintInstall could do that after it f...

Re: Brasero won't burn discs
negative on virtual machine. ... and I'll check Nautilus next time I try. I installed K38 and GnomeBaker. Took me forever to find since they don't show on menu. GnomeBaker was able to burn a disc, once I found the thing (now to try and make a launcher in menu... but odd that while trying to add item...
