Re: newly installed apps not showing up in the menu
I installed two programs last night, K3B and GnomeBaker. Both installed via mintInstall and neither showing on menu. Then one doesn't know where to look. Looks like usr/share directory is a general place to look. But I find GnomeBaker dir and no executable. Using the file manager's search feature (a...

Re: Brasero won't burn discs
After what seemed like a hardware problem: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=40987 ............. (if that's indeed what it was) I'm now having the same problem (Mint 7). I put a blank DVD/RW disc in the drive and get a pop up: You have just inserted a blank DVD. Chose what applica...

Re: Mint 7 not recognizing a DVD RW drive
I was mistaken (misread bios) DVD/RW is slave & the CD drive is Master. Have also confirmed physical pin settings . [installation asked for that config - CD top... DVD lower... MSI Motherbord cable also specifiying Master/Slave in this manner] I put a Mint 8 disc in the CD and it cannot see the ...

Re: Mint 7 not recognizing a DVD RW drive
Please check the pin settings on the back of each of your drives . . the dvd burner should have the pins set to "master", and your cd drive should be set to "slave". (right next to the ribbon cable, and the settings usually stamped right into the metal.) Sorry, don't remember as...

Re: Mint 7 not recognizing a DVD RW drive
yes... the bios see the DVD RW drive as Master and the CD drive (which Mint does see) as slave

Mint 7 not recognizing a DVD RW drive
I have a DVD RW drive but it is invisible... not seeming to be there. I found out trying to burn LinuxMint-8.iso to disc. The drive is not in "Computer". I see it recognized in bios... and, loading a Bart-PE disc, I could read files on a disc from it. I typed some things in Terminal based ...

GeForce FX 5500 dual head - oddities [CPU taxed]
I gave up on getting a Matrox G450 working in Mint 7. So put in a GeForce FX 5500 card. Eventually I got an Nvidia driver via Mint's promptings and now have an NVIDIA X Server Settings control in the system area of the Control Center. I even have two monitors working . Yay However , my CPU seems peg...

Re: I Love Helena
I just did a search... for "upgrading Mint 7 to 8" and this thread comes up number 2. The first is meaningless blather, which like this one, doesn't answer the question. So now another search result that references the issue but does not answer................. at least not directly. I sup...

Re: I Love Helena
May I ask a really stupid question? If I'm in Linux Mint 7 is there an "upgrade path" to Helena?
...or is it an completely fresh installation?

Matrox P650 Dual-head
I'm in Mint 7 have a G450 dual head - and have no access to second monitor I can find. Certainly not in the Control center's "Display" section. Looked all over the net, found unofficial drivers and tips on the xorg.conf file. But it seems nothing wants to work with the newest xorg or x ser...

Re: Driver installation and "X server"
I am (I think) realizing that Mint 7 thinks it has good drivers for the graphics card. But "Display" in the Control centre gives no ability to engage dual monitors. Of course, trying to do this is my first task after install...and I feel over my head very quickly. Specifically, it seems li...

Driver installation and "X server"
So, I have a new Linux Mint 7 installed. I have a Matrox Millenium G450 graphics card and nothing in the control centre seems to "see" this. I found a driver and dowloaded, extracted the thing. Figured out how to log in as "root" in the Terminal in order to execute (I think) the ...

Installing Skype
So..... Linux Mint 7 here. I have tried to install skype with the software manager. I've also gone to Skype.com and got the install downloaded. Several times I have "installed" it.... and yet it appears nowhere I can find. It's not on the menu.... It says it installed but it is nowhere. I ...
