Re: Gnome or Unity for Mint 11
I think this answers this question: http://www.muktware.com/n/09/2010/440 Clement Lefebvre, Linux Mint, told Muktware, "We're not planning to switch to Unity but to keep our desktop as similar as it is at the moment. So it's hard to say how we'll achieve this technically but we're aiming at us...

Re: Thoughts on the Gnome Shell and Gnome 3.0?
Gnome 3 is only 55% complete! So please remember this! I am using Fedora 14 (just install Autoten for ALL your codecs!) with Gnome 3 right now and I don't see any reason to go back to regular Gnome. I have yet to see Gnome crash and it's FAST! I find it to be very intuitive. It seems to automaticall...

Re: Maverick approaching final release.
I thought I'd give Kubuntu a try... * I started doing a review on the Rekonq browser and decided to just leave it at that. * Rekonq browser: What I loved - KDE integrated and beautiful/sleek look - Maximizes space (much like the chrome browser) - Anonymous surfing mode and my favorite... - has a spe...

Re: Start the name suggestions for Mint 11
Katrina (and many variants) remind me of Hurricane Katrina which was a horrible disaster for so many people in the United States. I would stay away from that one. Though something tells me people are going to try to brush it off and say that it's a forgotten pastime. It only happened 5 years ago, an...

Re: Really rolling?
Yes, Debian recommends the use of aptitude. On the other hand, Ubuntu is actually planning to remove aptitude from its base system by Ubuntu 11.04, and recommend people to use its Software Centre instead (or Synaptic and apt-get). They are planing to remove Synaptic from Ubuntu 11.4 too... h...

Re: Disabling scollbars in a browser?
Not 100 pct sure, but since it's KDE there are tons of options available to you. I would try System Settings > Window Behavior and try to create a new window rule regarding the application you are trying to disable scrollbars in. If that doesn't work or is too complicated, I would ask over at the P...

Disabling scollbars in a browser?
I would like to be able to disable scrollbars in a browser because I'm going to make a integrated-like theme on my desktop. I find they take up space and I can get by without them.
Is there a setting or a browser I can use to do this?
Thanks

Re: Bootup screen says "GNU GRUB version 1.98..."
Follow this guide. It from Ubuntu but it applies to Mint. You just boot the Mint Live cd and follow this directions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2#Recover%20Grub%202%20via%20LiveCD * Wipes sweat off forehead * Thank you so much! That information was able to allow me to boot up the computer. :D Now ...

Re: Bootup screen says "GNU GRUB version 1.98..."
Boot the live CD again and once there open a terminal and post result of: sudo fdisk -l From that we should be able confirm if windows is still there. I wasn't sure how to boot into terminal from the splash screen so for now I booted into MintLive and did the command. Here is what appeared: " ...

Bootup screen says "GNU GRUB version 1.98..."
I haves installed LInux Mint 9 (Gnome Version) 'side-by-side' with Windows XP. Upon booting up again I encountered this message: Error: out of disk I found the the thread below and the person said they simply installed it again and it worked. So I installed again overtop of the last Mint partition. ...

Re: Getting wireless to work in KDE
Is there perhaps a place where I can find the SSID information on the gnome OS so I don't have to tamper with the wireless modem? I am unaware of how to copy wireless network configuration from Linux Mint 9 Gnome to Linux Mint 9 KDE and make it work successfully. Not saying it can't be done, but I ...

Re: Getting wireless to work in KDE
I have not use Mint 9.But,am sure in the login prompt, you can change the desktop enviroment.Do that and check if Gnome has the same problem. I find that all Gnome OS's work for me on both computers and all KDE's do not. I just tried Opensuse and the same thing. Perhaps I'm not setting the network u...

Re: Getting wireless to work in KDE
Is the SSID for your network hidden? If so, try making it openly visible via the router, and see if you can connect then. After you successfully connect the first time, you can re-hide it, and it should re-connect without issue after that. Joe This netbook (and another one I have) work just fine wh...

Re: Getting wireless to work in KDE
If there is anyone that could help me before my head pops off that would be great. I just tried to use the LiveCD again with no success. I entered all the information the exact same as I would for gnome (which works) and no errors came up. All that happens is that a little message appears if...

Re: New name for 'Linux Mint Debian Edition' / LMDE
Until then, I have a feeling that quite a few people will continue to use the "LMDE" acronym. (Sounds like it's named after an alien? Really?) No. I was thinking of different OS's like Gentoo, Chakra, Pardus, and Aptosid... Then again, at least then didn't name it "Linux/GNU Aptosid ...

Re: New name for 'Linux Mint Debian Edition' / LMDE
Don't most newbies know how to Google? Is "LMDE" really all that confusing to anyone ? I think about 10 years ago people would care. Today we live in the age of information. There is simply so much information that society as a whole is becoming overloaded. As a result most people shut do...
